This young man has clearly been feeling awkward since the moment she invited him to join her, and as she spoons some of the stew she has been making into a bowl and offers it out.]
Here, this should help.
[Help what? His nerves? If he's feeling cold? Hard to tell.]
no subject
doesn't mean he has to like gross icky vegetables, though.
he takes in a couple spoonfuls, before looking around the camp and at Vennessa]
So... Why are you all the way out here?
no subject
[Maybe it's the lack of familiarity. Maybe it's all the strangers. She isn't sure, but she had never been able to settle into the refugee housing and had yet to find anywhere else to put down more permanent roots.
She prods at the stew in her own bowl then takes a bite, looking into the fire as she chews and then swallows.] My tribe were always nomadic. I haven't been able to move around as much in the last ten years, but it isn't something I'm unused to.
[Vennessa looks up at him curiously and her lips quirk into a smile.]
And what about you?
no subject
before he can ask more about the subject, he's distracted with Vennessa's question. what is he doing in the woods? now that he thinks about it, Luke isn't entirely sure; he shrugs as he takes a bite of his stew before answering]
I dunno, really... I was on a walk and suddenly I found myself here. [nothing exciting, really] But you lived in a tribe? What's that?
no subject
[She looks at him for a moment to make sure she understood the question correctly, then lifts both eyebrows and shakes off the befuddlement. There's a lot she doesn't know, herself, so how can she possibly judge anyone else?]
A tribe is a group of people. My tribe move around a lot, or we did when I was young. But it was never an easy life.
[But that way lies sadness, so she changes the subject with an easy smile.]
This is a long way out to just end up here on a walk. You must have been lost in your head.
no subject
[sounds like him and his friends, honestly. but, to be fair, the circumstances of why they were moving around a lot are probably a bit different than when Vennessa did. could he even describe his group of friends as a tribe, by her definition? they were more like his family than anything (one that he holds so dear to his heart)... curiosity gets the better of him and it only raises more questions. however, he won't ask them in fear of sounding like he's bombarding the woman. as for her comment...]
I was just thinking about some stuff. This place is kinda weird, don't you think?
no subject
[Well... he isn't wrong. She considers her answer and looks down at her food as she does, lightly prodding at the vegetables in the broth.]
Yes, I suppose it is. [What with the strange things that would happen, the magic, and the multitude of effects that kizuna might have on a person... it was definitely not like Teyvat at all. And yet...]
I don't object to the experience. There are people that I miss, but it's better that they aren't here with me.
