His cheeks went crimson as she said that, a stubborn frown settling on his lips. If she'd been a man he probably would've hit her for it, but... well. She was right, even if he didn't like it, and he huffed in reply.
"Don't be ridiculous," he replied, just as firmly. "I'm not just a soldier. I'm supposed to be a leader, but instead I let them all die." And that was the crux of it, really. All these people he was supposed to protect, to lead, to belong to, and they were all gone.
