April | Event: Skybound Travelers

Skybound Travelers OOC Plotting
Minimize
As everyone settles into a routine in Nippon, newer refugees may find that visiting the Western Kingdom is something of an undertaking. Although considerably faster than traveling by airship or on foot, the underground train that connects Tokyo and Kyoto still takes at least five hours. And not everyone enjoys the roller coaster-like experience of the Sunday-only time surge that shortens that ride into ten minutes. But lucky for them, the NRL are finally ready to release a special new travel system!

Developed in part thanks to the refugees for gathering the necessary etherblossoms back in March, refugees will now find teleportation terminals available at the NRL in Tokyo and MRU in Kyoto. These terminals only connect to each other, with plans to expand to other cities in the future.

Or at least, that's what they're supposed to do.

Nippon Traveler

With the announcement of fast travel between kingdoms quickly spreading among the refugees, many of them are clamoring to be the first to take advantage. After all, the train is rather inconvenient for those with friends and family in both kingdoms, and even more so for those who wish to work in one while living in the other.

Thankfully, the NRL took this into consideration, and made sure to add additional platforms and a timed queueing system to make things run smoothly, essentially creating a small station on the top floor of the NRL's main building. And with exclusive elevator access on the outside just for traveling refugees, it's certainly built for convenience.

Ready, Aim... Kyoto, Western Kingdom
Despite the fact that the NRL has been using these teleporters just fine for transferring between Tokyo and Kyoto for the past few weeks, the sudden inundation of users is causing the system to overload ever so slightly. As a result, the teleporter hasn't been sending people where it should, occasionally redirecting them to random areas throughout Kyoto.

On the one hand, magic is so commonplace in the West that no one really thinks anything about the Refugees popping in and out of existence, with most natives just assuming they're teleporting using the local magic. But on the other hand, this assumption means the natives will think it's intentional, resulting in a large number of refugees finding themselves in both literal and metaphorical hot water after teleporting straight into a public bath, fully-clothed. Hopefully it's a mixed bath, or they might find themselves being carried away by the patrolling samurai guards for questioning.

In addition to becoming a public nuisance for the natives, some may find themselves teleporting into the homes of fellow refugees instead. They may wind up as an uninvited dinner guest, or perhaps they'll appear during a private or intimate moment between lovers. Some may even end up appearing in a closet, giving them ample opportunity to hide until they can make their escape!

Thankfully, this bug is discovered quickly enough that it only creates a few days of chaos -- so don't let that put you off the technology forever!

Here Comes a Thought Higashiyama, Kyoto
But of all the locations the teleporters are sending people to, perhaps the most common one is Kiyomizu-dera in Kyoto's Higashiyama neighborhood. As one of the most famous temples in Kyoto, its already a popular tourist destination, with beautiful gardens, a veranda overlooking all of Kyoto, and is home to a magic school that specializes in the Mizu Element.

Those who are lucky may simply find themselves suddenly standing in front of a very tall pagoda, or overlooking the view of Kyoto. But most refugees will instead find themselves standing before the Tainai Meguri, a dark underground passageway beneath one of the many shrines in Kiyomizu-dera. Naturally, it'll be assumed they want to go in, and they may find themselves ushered down by a shrine maiden or two who don't want them holding up the line.

Blanketed in an inky darkness, the Tainai Meguri is composed of a single hallway and a rope along the wall to help guide visitors down to the lowest part of the passageway, where a mysterious stone can be found. Glowing with a mysterious power, the stone is the only source of light in the tunnel. And those who touch the stone with a clear mind will see the carving in the center change, showing which magic element they have an aptitude for: Tsuchi, Mizu, Hi, or Kaze.

However, those who touch the stone without a clear mind will witness something different. Because the stone in question is a Memory Stone, an ancient magical artifact capable to creating illusions of a person's memories. Once the stone is touched, the light of the stone will jump out into the darkness, projecting illusions of their past on the walls around them. Whether these illusions appear as text, an exact replica of one's memories, or something more abstract, varies by the person.

Those whose memories are being projected may find themselves completely overwhelmed by the emotions they felt at the time of that memory. For this reason, no one is allowed into the Tainai Meguri alone, so those affected better hope that their partner in the darkness is prepared to drag them out of it.

Into the Unknown

As the technology powering these terminals is still quite new to the scientists at the NRL, actually releasing these to the public is still a way off. Although there's zero risk of harm coming as a result of using the terminal, they have noticed that occasionally the terminal registers another point of travel, as if another terminal exists. A reverse transfer always brings them back just fine, but little is known about where these objects are ending up.

To that end, the NRL is asking brave enough refugees interested in exploring to take the teleporter to these unknown locations and report what they find. But don't worry, they're not asking they do this for free! All participants will receive a moderate sum of money, as well as a week-long stay at the Ōwakudani Hot Spring Resort in Hakone, to be redeemed whenever they like.

Cold Cuddles Sapporo, Hokkaido
For the first mysterious location, volunteers will be bundled up in warm clothes, as objects that come back always arrive very cold. And indeed -- upon teleporting, they'll find themselves in the midst of a snowstorm, an ancient version of the same terminal below their feet, and strange ruins all around them. And stranger still, the walls of the ruins appear to be covered in dark blue ice that won't melt no matter how much heat is applied.

It seems this teleporter is somehow connected to Hokkaido, the northernmost island of Nippon. Due to an ancient curse, the land is perpetually snowy and plagued by unmelting ice called everfrost. And while those who visited the region prior may recognize their surroundings enough to know they're actually very close to the city of Sapporo, others may not be so lucky, nor willing to take the risk of missing their return window.

Worse still, they're just far enough away from the city that their magi-comms won't work! With no way of activating the terminal from their side, and two hours before the NRL reactivates it on their end to bring them back, it looks like they'll need to huddle together for warmth to ensure they don't freeze.

Thankfully, the terminal is located in a covered area, and the remains of an old campsite nearby even has some blankets and supplies. And upon their return, they'll be given hot drinks and no shortage of apologies for not considering the risk of giving them such a long window to explore.

Party in the Dark Jigoku, Shitaya
The second mysterious location is by far the most intriguing, as it's clearly somewhere that people have access to, and yet no one has tried coming back through the terminals. Instead, empty cans and half-finished drinks sometimes end up on the terminal, with no explanation as to who was drinking them prior. And as this phenomenon only occurs late at night, that's when the volunteers will be sent.

Upon arriving, at first they'll find themselves blanketed in a perpetual darkness, surrounded by some sort of stone tunnel, with the sound of music echoing from further in. They'll still be able to contact the NRL, leading the scientists to suggest that they may be in Jigoku, the catacombs of an abandoned subway system below Tokyo.

Should they be brave enough to follow the source of the music, they'll stumble upon what appears to be a secret speakeasy in the dark, run by the Hanyo who live in the neighborhood of Shitaya. As many Hanyo still possess the Yokai ability to see more clearly in the dark than Humans, the lack of lighting is more a feature than a gimmick.

Still, for having made it all the way down here, they'll be offered free drinks and a playful atmosphere -- so long as they promise to keep their illegal supply of Uki-based drinks and snacks a secret from the authorities. A popular recreational drug in the West made from the naturally sweet Uki Weed, Uki is highly regulated in the East, and causes lowered inhibitions, feelings of calm or euphoria, and even functions as a mild aphrodisiac.

Which might just be why many patrons are taking advantage of the dark and inviting atmosphere for romantic trysts in the dark, with futons set up in nearby tunnels for all your sensory deprivation needs. The Refugees can contact the NRL to return at any time, so why not let loose and join the fun?

Castle in the Sky

After a week of using the teleporters, Refugees will discover a new warp point is now listed alongside Kyoto and Tokyo: Tengoku, the nation of Tengu, comprised of dozens of airborne cities that float high above Nippon. According to the NRL, the technology used for these teleporters was developed thanks to the Tengu of Skytower, as a much belated thank you for the refugee's help back in March 1921.

And while Skytower itself remains off-limits, the Tengu Capital of Miyazaki has decided to open its doors to outsiders for the first time in centuries.

Fly High Miyazaki, Tengoku
The Tengu cities are unlike anywhere else on Nippon, comprised of a single, massive amount of land that towers upward, and numerous smaller islands that float up and around the main part of the city. Mysterious magic-powered technology can be found all around the city, though the appearance is quite different from the more modern magi-tech.

But perhaps the most notable thing is that these cities are not designed to be very accessible to those who can't fly. Very few actual pathways lead upward into the city proper, and the entrance to most buildings are located on the top floor, with only a small balcony in front to land on. But thankfully, there's a means around it!

Upon arrival to the capital of Miyazaki, all Refugees will be offered a small backpack with a tiny pair of wings attached to it. Upon putting it on and jumping, the wings will grow larger, acting like a part of their body and allowing them to fly! These backpacks will only function in Tengoku, but they're welcome to keep them should they decide to visit again.

Of course, just because they have the power to do so doesn't mean they'll actually be good at it. Refugees may struggle to become airborne at all, or may find it difficult to control themselves in mid-air, flying into walls, other refugees, or accidentally hurling themselves over the edge of the city. Thankfully, there's patrolling Tengu who are always prepared to catch those who fall, but considering it always comes with a lecture, it's really not the best experience.

But those who persevere will be able to fly up to the very top of the city, where they'll find a beautiful garden overlooking the clouds. The flora here is far more alien than anything commonly found in Nippon, with plentiful etherblossoms, crystal-like mahougi trees, and-- is that a nuruname bloom? Maybe stay away from that one...

Liquid Happiness Miyazaki, Tengoku
Being so high up in the sky, completely isolated, meant that the Tengu cities were designed to be completely self-sustaining. Although they do conduct trade with the mainland below, almost everything they need is either grown or produced by the land itself. Which might just beg the question: where is the water coming from? Because nearly every level of the city is accented by canals and waterfalls.

But those who visit on a rainy day will get their answer. As high as they are, the Tengu cities are close enough that they can draw from the magic properties of the ring that circles the planet of Gaia, which is only visible at night. Thus, the rain that falls in Miyazaki has magical properties: in audition to a rainbow color, it can be infinitely multiplied, instantly heal wounds and certain illnesses, and seems to cause feelings of euphoria similar to Kizuna when one stands in it. For this reason, the rain that falls in Miyazaki is referred to as liquid happiness.

But for Refugees, these effects are even more extreme. Those who visit Miyazaki during a particularly rainy week at the tail end of April will begin to manifest severe Kizuna side-effects, especially the supernatural variety. While ordinarily these effects are only possible when feelings of love are present, the power of the rain will allow Refugees to share their thoughts and feelings with the people around them, whether they want to or not.

So strong are the effects of the rain that these effects will linger well after they leave, and may even become contagious to those they meet later on the surface. In the end, the NRL issues a warning for Refugees to avoid lingering in Miyazaki in rainy days until a more conclusive study on this "liquid happiness" can be conducted.

OOC Notes
Welcome to Jikan's April event! Please direct any questions to the Question Thread in the OOC Plotting post.
• Characters will not be allowed into the Tainai Meguri alone, and must descend in pairs.

• Sapporo is roughly a twenty minute walk away, and characters who are familiar with their surroundings will be able to go to the city proper. Magi-comms will also begin to work again. More information on Sapporo can be found on the Setting page!

• You are welcome to assume there is Uki-based incense in the underground party if your character would need an extra nudge to participate.

• Given their isolated status, the Tengu cities only contain Tengu Yokai, who range from entirely human-like with wings, anthropomorphic birds, and the traditional long-nosed variety! Although Refugees may be treated as a novelty by the people there, only elderly Tengu will treat them rudely for being outsiders.

• Characters will find that inns and hotels are both plentiful and cheap in Tengu cities, as the cities are very far apart from one another, and it's very common for Tengu to travel far from home. Miyazaki, for instance, floats above Kyushu near the Westernmost point of Nippon!

Ready, Aim...

A

[Genesis had heard about these new teleporting platforms to help people get between the two major regions much faster than the five hour train right. A worthy endeavor, to say the least, but Genesis was certainly not going to participate simply because several people he knew (and wanted to keep his distance from) were in Tokyo. So, he really had no reason to do so.

That being said, what he wasn't at all expecting were the mishaps that came with teleporting. But, he supposed, having a random person appear in the middle of his living room in his apartment was probably better than having them appear in a wall or something equally horrifying. He sipped his coffee, a little loudly because sir/ma'am, you are in his living room and probably disoriented. Hopefully, the sound caught your attention. He was leaning against the counter, looking expectantly at his new visitor. At least he was dressed, newly shorn hair brushed and styled.]

Would you like some coffee?

[May as well offer the poor person a cup before sending them on their way.]

B

[This really had to stop. Now he couldn't even enjoy a bath! Well, alright, he was in a public bathhouse and the hot springs itself were quite large so it wasn't like the person took up space. But the resulting splash and clamor was distracting to say the least.

Thankfully, yes, this was a mixed gendered bath but it was late enough in the evening that Genesis was currently the only occupant. He leaned his elbow against the rocky edge with an insufferable sigh through his nose.]

Goodness, these teleporters are certainly not worth it, are they? I suggest either getting undressed and letting your clothes dry. There's no one else here. [A beat and he raised his eyebrows in expectation.] Well? Go on. Oh, are you embarrassed? Should I close my eyes?

[Of course, if you're a woman, he won't say that last bit and simply look away politely.]

Fly High

Ah, no thanks.

[The tengu, however, was most insistent on giving Genesis the winged backpack.]

I promise you, I don't need it.

'We don't need you falling, take it!'

[He sighed loudly and with a snap of his arm, a very large, black wing burst from his left shoulder. Genesis also didn't want to hear it about how one wing would just solve the problem either and leapt high into the air. He stayed airborne and crossed his arms, tilting his head at the tengu.]

Satisfied, sir? Good, now leave me be.

[The tengu simply gave the former SOLDIER an irritated look and walked off to supply the backpack to flightless refugee. Genesis let himself drop to the ground without much more fanfare and the wing eventually faded from view and no, I am not explaining how he does that because Crisis Core failed to explain that one. 8D]

Here Comes the Thought

[Genesis hadn't meant to stop of the teleportation pad, but them's the brakes when he was accidently shoved onto it and into a very dark passage way. Genesis willed a ball of fire into his hand to shed some light in the area. Whether someone was with him or not, he paid them no mind as he wandered forward until he came upon that mysterious stone. The historian in him wanted him to touch it, but the SOLDIER part of him told him not to.

His curiosity won out and he knelt down to briefly graze the stone with his fingertips. It was enough to activate it and suddenly, a projection of what soon became increasingly obviously his own memories was brought forth. A bittersweet one, at that. It started when he met the Goddess herself. A moment of salvation, the years upon years of degradation and near constant pain and insanity being given the relief and succor he had sorely needed. But upon trying to reach for Her, She turned him away. The message was clear, Genesis still had work to do and it would be by Her bidding that he would. His time had not yet come and so, he would be sent back to Gaia.

When he next awoke, it was to Zack's voice. 'Okay, let's eat'

Genesis didn't need to open his eyes to know what was happening. Well, in a way. He could smell the apples, the Banora White. He could never mistake that. He could sense what appeared to be Sephiroth and Angeal nearby. A part of him denied this, but it had been an unattainable dream for so long so... let him have this. He had gotten his pride back as a SOLDIER and... a dumbapple enjoyed by his closest friends. What more could he ask for? Besides, he was took weak to do much else but live in the moment while he was conscious.]

Angeal... the dream... it came true.

[really, he had planned to stop by and see Genesis at some point - some point soon, because he knew avoiding it would just make it worse and it was only awkward on his end, probably. Besides, he'd been caught up in settling in and whatnot anyway, so it only made sense to put it off until he wasn't busy.

Of course, the teleporters have no idea that's how he feels and really, he shouldn't be surprised it turned out like this.

Honestly, the weirdest part of this is how normal it seems. And how his first instinct isn't to reach for the sword no longer on his back out of some strange comfort]

I. Ready, Aim . . .
[being teleported places at random? Not so bad. Being teleported into a closet he ends up falling out of, or in the middle of an occupied bath? Okay, maybe that's awkward.

Though it's probably a little funny, watching a big guy like Zack scramble to his feet and immediately slap his hands together in front of him with a slightly panicked -]
Sorry, sorry, I didn't mean to!
II. Here Comes A Thought
[he's not expecting to be teleported down into the passageway, but by now he's had a few teleporting mishaps and he takes it in stride, laughing a little about the situation. He apologizes to the shrine maidens and, well, whoever ends up with them, and - ]

Well, we may as well check it out, right?

[because surely, what could be so bad about figuring out your magic element? He's more than familiar enough with it in his own world, so learning a little about it in this world only makes sense -

Unfortunately, his mind is not as clear as he thought it was, and when he touches the stone the room changes. Zack, for his part, stares suspiciously at the exam table that suddenly appears, but it isn't until two, strange pods appear that he reacts, with a curse and a step back, away from the stone]

What the hell?
III. Fly High
[Miyazaki is a welcome change from teleporting mishaps and accidentally shared memories. In fact, Zack completely forgets any of what happened and takes to learning how to use the winged backpack provided with enthusiasm!

Enthusiasm that not even crashing once or twice or ten times can ruin.

He really doesn't seem to mind, and he'll laugh and apologize for startling anyone nearby.

Eventually, though, he will master it enough to make it up to the garden, where he'll take a break and find somewhere to sit, quietly enjoying the flowers. It's been a while since he could do something like this, after all]
IV. Wildcard
[Zack can be found all over, so feel free to find him other places not in the prompts above! Or ask and I'll happily write a prompt if you have something specific in mind! Plotting can be found here ♥]

[Ever since he arrived here, Genesis had just been bumping into people who were dead, should be dead, or in hiding. Some variation of the three and each time, he was surprised. Not quite pleasantly either. But it is what it is and there wasn't anything he could do about seeing dead people.

So, he merely raised an eyebrow.]

I suppose I will take that as a yes. Black or do you prefer sugar or cream in it as well?

[He had made enough for a few cups, he rather enjoyed a few cups as, much like alcohol, caffeine didn't quite do much for him. So it was just the taste he enjoyed. But he could spare a cup for a fellow former SOLDIER.]

1. Ready, Aim...

Those who know Reno might think he did this on purpose somehow, but he didn't. Because he didn't know how to.

No, the fact that he's sitting in someone's fill bathtub right now, fully dressed and potentially with company, is entirely an accident. And it doesn't help that he appeared in the air before falling in, causing so much of the water to splash out!

2. Cold Cuddles

Someone who likes showing off their chest doesn't tend to be dressed for the cold. It hit him quickly on arrival. The bitter chill biting every exposed bit of skin instantly.

He knew immediately that he needed to think fast, before the cold prevented him from thinking clearly at all. He checked his surroundings and spotted the campsite, hurriedly making it over to check for supplies.

Trying to contact someone didn't work. So he wrapped himself, took shelter in a protected spot, and considered his options.

That was when he spotted someone else there. Someone who'd tucked themselves away nice and good for most likely the same reasons he did. He knew as he watched his breath puff away like a cloud of smoke that the situation could be dire, but he still managed a grin in their direction.

"Hey, you can always press up against me if you need."

It was sensible to share warmth, teasing as he was, and he didn't know how long they might have been waiting there already...

. . . yeah, coffee sounds good. Sugar, please.

[somehow, treating this as normal is just a touch more weird, but Zack can roll with it. Though really, out of the two SOLDIERs he could run into, Genesis is only slightly less awkward, given what he knows]

Rude - Final Fantasy VII

[personal profile] suitandshades 2022-04-15 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
1) Ready, Aim...
Well this was... interesting.

There had been talk about teleportation tech and Rude wasn't the least bit interested. Having his body zapped somewhere else? What if he ended up inside of a wall or turned inside out? There were a million things that could go wrong.

He was reclining on the sofa reading a book, or trying, his thoughts kept coming back to those strange things... When a flash of light appears above him.

Rude has no time to move before a body drops down atop him.

"..." As if he didn't need any more proof that those teleportation machines were bad news. "... And you are?"

2) Party in the Dark

It was dark when he showed up. Rude had sworn he wouldn't mess with teleportation, but when it was implied he was a coward (asking for brave souls and saying no would make him a coward, right?) he had to do something. So when he stepped through and found himself in a tunnel he was confused.

He'd followed the music.

Within an hour he was reclined against a bunch of pillows on a futon and sipping at a drink through a bendy straw and just enjoying the music. He was feeling... mellow. Whatever was in the drinks they made here was damn good. He didn't feel drunk, Rude just felt good. Good enough he was humming to the music.

3) Liquid Happiness

Rude was stood in the doorway of a building and out of the rain. He'd already been caught in it once, he was dripping wet from head to toe... and he'd taken his sunglasses off. They were in his pocket and he had a gloved hand up to his eyes, rubbing at them as he laughed.

"There's something real messed up about this place."

Because again, he felt... happy. But he had a hell of a headache. Because he hadn't actually spoken out loud. As quiet a guy as Rude was, turns out his mental voice is a very outspoken one.

Aerith Gainsborough | Final Fantasy 7: Remake | OTA

[personal profile] ancientflower 2022-04-15 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
1) Ready, Aim...
[Aerith is a menace. And because she is a menace she actually enjoyed being flung all over the place and ending up in strange places! It was almost expected! Anyone shocked when she stepped out of a closet or some strangers bathroom, or popped in when they were in the middle of cooking dinner or even in the hot springs, should they really be surprised?

She always greeted them happily enough, with laughter and smiles.]

Heya! I'm Aerith! Don't mind me, just passing through. Teleports are so unreliable these days!

2) Here Comes the Thought

[This place was different. There was a hushed feel about the place, and Aerith was quiet as she stepped down through the tunnel, a hand on the rope to guide her way.

There was a stone that was said to tell what element they were attuned to and she was curious. How could she not be? Being the last of the Cetra, it was a question that did make her wonder just how magic she was naturally.

Except when she found the stone it wasn't what she expected at all... Touching it didn't tell her what she wanted to know.

The dark of the room was suddenly lit by the stone and images were splashed all across the walls. Aerith took them in... and a hand raised up to her throat, the other to cover her mouth. On one wall was a cut-away image of a train car full of boxes. Inside one of those boxes, huddled together, was a small child and an adult woman. It was like a picture caught in time, shifting for a few moments of action but returning, caught in a loop.

The next wall had those same people running, climbing a chain-link fence to get away from the people chasing them. The child looked so lost and confused. The woman looked like she was hanging on by a thread...

The third wall was a train station...

The woman was on the ground, the child calling out to the people around her and not a soul would pay them attention. The people were just shadows without faces, her memory refusing to paint them in, which made the picture all the more horrifying. The only bright spot was from the little girl and her mother.

Aerith closed her eyes tight.

She didn't want to turn around and look at the final wall...

3) Fly High

This is amazing!!

[She'd eagerly taken one of those backpacks. Immediately making the wings come out and flap. They were beautiful and she had to laugh as she jumped into the air and made them flap harder to keep her aloft.

It took her a minute or two to get a handle on them. But soon she decided to hell with it! And she ran for the edge of the platform and threw herself fearlessly off it's edge and into the sky.

For a moment she dropped.

But her wings caught the updraft and soon she was soring, wings flapping and taking her higher. The sound of her laughter rang through the clouds.]

[it works for the moment; he lets his attention focus only on her, and it's easy to force a smile. It's shakier and weaker than the ones he forced when he was down there, when forcing bright, unshakable optimism was the only thing he could do for so long]

I don't know, it isn't like I want to see this place. [one of the murmured voices from the other room grows louder, briefly - a voice recognizable to both of them. He can't help but wince, fingers tightening] You shouldn't have to see it either.

[Aerith held his hands tighter and made herself smile up at him, she was trying so hard to think of a way of distracting him. But then her attention was pulled away by the voice and her eyes widened a little.

She looked over at the room and then back at Zack.]

Don't be afraid. Nothing can hurt you here. [She smiled.] I'll protect you.

[Zack doesn't miss the way Aerith's eyes widen, and as more conversation filters in he takes another step back, gently pulling her with him. Bits and pieces loud enough to hear clearly; "project S" and "Jenova" and "failures", one subject's tolerance too great while the second was too weak. The door opens and a scientist wanders in, clipboard in hand and approaches the pods, immediately beginning to take notes.

He reaches for a sword that isn't there, laughing a little helplessly when all he grabs is air. Fear isn't the right word for what he's feeling, but it feels so muddled and hazy he doesn't know if he could describe it - other than it's painfully familiar]

You shouldn't have to. This - it already happened.

Asch the Bloody | Tales of the Abyss

I. Here Comes A Thought
[the change is immediate when he touches the stone; the room goes dark, the only light coming from the symbols floating over a round table that has appeared. Two silhouettes can be seen, barely illuminated, their expressions cold, hard.

There's a boy strapped to the table, and as the symbols brighten and the whirr of machines kick up, he starts screaming.

Asch, who had opened his mouth to complain about how ridiculous it was that a stone could determine anything, goes absolutely still, eyes wide. Even in the dim light it's not hard to miss how all the color has drained from his face, or the way his fists clench so tightly at his sides that he's begun shaking]
II. Party in the Dark
[normally, he wouldn't be caught dead in a place like this. But he ends up being teleported there and there's something about it that makes him stay - not that he knows it's the uki, but it doesn't really matter, does it?

After some debate he gets a drink and finds somewhere relatively private to sit, and it's probably the calmest anyone's ever seen him be. He looks perfectly at ease and - yeah, he'll be pisssed later, but everyone may as well enjoy a more pleasant god general while it lasts]
III. Liquid Happiness
[it's almost like Nippon is conspiring to get Asch to enjoy himself for once, because somehow he ends up in Miyazaki when it's raining.

His forced, good mood isn't immediately obvious, but he's relaxed and rather than stomping around, he's taking his time to enjoy the sights. The tengus' city really is something to behold, in a way it almost reminds him of home . . . ]
IV. Wildcard
[want to do something else with Asch? Or maybe a different prompt? Feel free to come up with your own or hit me up over here! ♥]

[he isn't sure why or how he'd convinced Asch to let him come along this time (maybe he's finally starting to chip away at him, but who knows at this point). perhaps he wanted to see what elemental affinity he had, to give himself something to work on. or maybe it's, as usual, his curiosity. either way, it's a moot point when he sees the projections on the walls around them.

it rattles Luke, but he can't even imagine how Asch is feeling.

the screams echo in his ears and he recoils; no wonder Asch hates him. to be forced to endure this much pain when he was only ten, then for him to be replaced...]

--I'm sorry.

[Luke's compelled to apologise; his voice is soft. he steps away from his original, ready to leave when the inevitable demand for him to do so comes]

[it's one thing to dream about it; he's had this same nightmare for years, and it was easy to deal with because it was usually done in private, where he had the time to catch his breath and shove the memories into the furthest corner of his mind where they belonged.

He'd forgotten that Luke was with him, and somehow that makes this worse. Maybe because it's the one thing he can never shake, or maybe because for all that he blames Luke for so many things, this is something he can't. Or maybe it's because no one else should have to see this, but that's a thought for another time]

Sh-Shut up. [is all he manages to ground out and even then it sounds weak. But he's so caught up in watching the illusions play out that he hasn't realized his hand has shot out to grab Luke's wrist, his grip painfully tight]

( you know, Thea's used to a lot of weird stuff happening, especially when it comes to people appearing in her home (many, many times she's woken up and Aisling has just been sat there, waiting to be entertained), but usually she's at least met the people who appear.

so a stranger waltzing out of her bathroom while she's in the middle of heating water for her morning brew is still weird enough that it gets a double take and blink, Thea quickly taking stock of possible weapons she has within reach.

(not an old habit so much as a skill she had to pick up quickly after she left the Avenue.)
)

...

( thankfully, nothing about this young woman sounds like she's in the market for robbing Thea of the whole two things she currently owns here in Nippon, and so she relaxes. )

You weren't looking for tea, were you?

( she does have a second mug if this lady is looking for a warm drink. )

[Zack may not have had his sword, but Aerith had her stave. She's turned quickly, back to Zack and her weapon held in both of her hands to ward the danger off. Because she knew just who she was standing in front of. The evil man who had been the nightmare of her childhood. Who had contributed to the death of her mother. Who had wanted her kidnapped and wanted to force her to reproduce to make more of her kind.

But Zack's words filtered down through to her mind and she relaxed just a little.]

He isn't really here...?

[She moved away from Zack then, approaching Hojo. And then she lashed out with her stave and watched as it passed right through him.]

Damn. I would have liked to have knocked your block off, you evil little man.

[it makes sense that Aerith would've grown up in the time he was gone, but it's bittersweet, too. It's immediately obvious that she knows how to fight, to defend herself, but at the same time she shouldn't have to.

But worse is that she knows who Hojo is, and - if he was real, he'd let her lash out.
Hell, he'd beat the hell out of him, for everything he's done.

He reaches out to catch Aerith's wrist, gently tugging her away from the illusion. Hojo looks up from his clipboard and seems to look at both of them for a moment, thoughtfully, before he sneers and his attention returns to the pods]

C'mon, let's find our way out of here before - [he cuts off; he doesn't want it to show any more than it already has]

[Oh, she was pretty! She's popped into a few places so far, most hadn't been actual apartments but this seemed to be just that. And someone was home! And they appeared to be nice, as well as pretty, so Aerith smiled all the wider.]

I wasn't, but if you don't have a problem with an unexpected visitor, I would be happy to stay for a cup of tea!

[Aerith couldn't help it, before Zack pulled her away, she kicked out at Hojo's shins. It didn't work. It was never going to work. But somehow it made her feel a little better.]

Zack... Zack what's wrong? What actually happened? What did that... that monster do to you?

[She let herself be pulled away and trailed after him. She wasn't going to stop him. But his stress was making her feel antsy.]
