⌛ Who: Chuuya & Open
⌛ What: Aftermath of Higuchi's disappearance and kitsune antics
⌛ When: First week of May
⌛ Where: A bar in Kyoto, a few
⌛ Warnings: Alcohol and inebriation. Violence, possible smut because Chuuya is like that.
The weight of grief
[He'd felt it, when Higuchi disappeared. The painful wrenching feeling of a Kizuna bond snapping, and it steals the breath from his lungs for a fair few minutes, tears coming to his eyes of all things.
He knows. He knows... but he doesn't want to accept it, doesn't want to believe it. Which is why he locates a NRL scientist to interrogate them, confirming what he already knows in his gut but doesn't want to accept, scaring the crap out of his unfortunate target in the process before storming off.
He should check on Akutagawa. He should check on Dazai and Setsura. He should...
He doesn't. Instead he seeks out the nearest bar, grief clawing beneath his skin too sharp to deal with for the moment. No matter how often he loses friends, it never gets easier. Especially not someone who he...
Regardless, he can easily be caught at the local bar, getting rapidly wasted.]
Wash your sorrows away with drink and blood
[Chuuya's issue is overwhelming emotions often inevitably transform into... well. Stupid, reckless reactions. He's utterly sloshed, too many drinks in him to be rational, and brewing for a fight.
Grief is too heavy, even for a man who controls gravity. Anger, bloodlust... those are so much easier to carry.
He doesn't need a reason. Maybe it's a stray comment in the bar, maybe it's someone bumping into him as he skulks along the street drunk. Most people choose to avoid the obviously bristling redhead, but those who don't get a low growl of an accusation.]
Hey you. You trying to start something?
[...They probably aren't, but Chuuya is.]
Dangerously furry
[It's a few days later, and Chuuya's... well not completely fine, but better than he was. Well enough to try some of the Mochi outside of the shrine.
He isn't expecting the sudden flurry of tails sprouting from his back, thick and luxurious. His hair is still red, but it's longer-- hanging down his back in curling waves, topped with red fox ears atop his head. He blows some out of his face, reaching down to tug one of the tails up where he can see.
It's soft... and extremely fluffy.]
What the hell?
[He'll be like this for a few days, so people can enjoy petting the pretty new kitsune for a bit.]

Drink and Blood
Once he'd been able to move past the pain enough to function, the ache still clutching at his heart, Akutagawa had realized that he wasn't the only one who was hurting right now. Higuchi had bonds with everyone in the house and to some extent it'd hurt them too, and one of them was Chuuya but now it was late in the evening and the redhead wasn't here so he was probably out drinking.
He set out, donning his usual black coat and began the search.
It took a bit of time but sure enough he found Chuuya via the sound of his voice, and he discovers the redhead glowering up at a taller individual. A yokai by the looks of it. He looked between them and stepped forwards, closer to the redhead. ]
Chuuya-san. There's no need to get into a fight over something so... trivial.
[ Then, to the yokai. ]
My apologies. It would be in your best interest to leave now.

Neither has dealing with unpleasant emotions, so Akutagawa might note he is very, very drunk right now: Red rimmed eyes, flushed cheeks, rumpled clothes and seeming unbalanced enough on his feet to sway slightly. He's about to start yelling again, accusations and rude comments in hopes of getting what he wants, when Akutagawa approaches and speaks up.
Chuuya freezes. The wrathful tension drains from the set of his body, something heavier replacing it. He doesn't look at Akutagawa immediately, something like shame feeling raw and acidic alongside the grief and simmering anger.
Akutagawa... went looking for him. Even though he has to be hurting just as much, if not more, and Chuuya had just abandoned him like--]
Ah... Akutaga--shit!
[The yokai takes it's chance-- it slugs him with one large fist, right to the face while he's distracted. Chuuya is sent stumbling while the yokai proceeds to attempt to flee. They don't trust Akutagawa not to try and jump them alongside the redhead, clearly.]

It'd be too easy to activate and send out the beast to chomp it's large jaws around the other being but... he was not here to cause any more of a scene than what had been made already.
A soft growl barely escaped Akutagawa as he turned on his heel to go over towards Chuuya, noting that the executive was definitively drunk as hell right now. Probably due to what happened with Higuchi's departure from here which still made his own chest ache something fierce. It'd take time to make it go away, but right now he needed to be here for the other man. ]
I apologize for not finding you sooner. It took some time to track you down.
[ He's focused on trying to make sure that Chuuya's not going to be falling over or anything, but well aware of where things were going to go from here. ]
We should... go find somewhere quiet to talk if you can manage it.

You better run, you bastard!
[He reaches up to rub some of the blood away, only managing to smear it. He doesn't want to look up at Akutagawa, doesn't want to meet his eyes... but that apology hurts. It makes the ache in his own chest grow, just a bit.]
You're not the one who should be apologizing, idiot...
[There's something very much like a kicked dog about Chuuya right now, gruff and sullen, tone tinged heavily with regret. It's no secret in the port mafia that Chuuya has never taken losing people well--It's said among the lower ranks that Chuuya often took revenge for slain subordinates personally--but this is... different.
If Akutagawa's going to make sure he isn't falling over, he might have to keep him upright. Chuuya's swaying where he stands, gaze unfocused.]
I shoulda.... I...

Word traveled in the Port Mafia, after all.
Akutagawa's brows drew together briefly, his jaw set in a terse line even as he moved to step next to Chuuya. One hand even immediately set against the red-head's back for support wordlessly, his expression quiet and reflecting the hurt he was feeling just below the surface here. ]
There's nothing that we can do that would change what's happened.
[ His tone is bitter, pained and spoke of the things he was still dealing with but he pushed past the majority of it. Comforting people was not his strength but damn it he was going to try. One got better at these things the more they did them, right? ]
It... hurts because of how close she was to us. I never... cared about losing someone as much as... I did with her.
[ To which he's never really gonna ever say this to anyone but Chuuya. ]

Now Higuchi is gone. And while he won't voice the fear aloud, he's scared they won't ever see her again. That fear twists in his chest alongside the grief, too potent for him to handle.]
I wanted... She...
[She deserved better. She deserved a second chance, a better life. She deserved anything but this, and he hates it, inhaling shakily when his throat feels too tight to breath.]
...It's... not fair. We didn't even get to--
[But he didn't want to have said goodbye. He wanted to keep her here, keep her close, see her smile again. He presses his cheek harder against Akutagawa's shoulder, the younger man's presence something to cling to.]
...We didn't even get a chance to fight for her.

His gaze fell to the ground briefly, his chest tight like someone wrapped a vice around his heart and lungs. Even with Chuuya's disjointed speech, Akutagawa picked up most of what he was getting at here and it had his face somewhat reflecting how he felt as a result of them. Maybe that was also why his hand supporting Chuuya curled more into the material there, breath hitching softly. ]
We didn't. She... deserved so much more. A second chance to truly live...
[ He bowed his head slightly. Earlier he thought he'd gotten it all out of his system but now was proving otherwise. ]
I... regret not telling her what... I felt for her. That... those feelings of hers were... returned.
[ Akutagawa sucked in a sharp breath. This hurt and he didn't like it. ]
She meant a lot to a lot of us. You're... not alone in feeling this way, Chuuya-san...
