January | Event: Trials and Trains

Trials and Trains
↲ OOC Plotting
As the refugees settle in, they might begin to notice strange things happened around them. Even now, receiving a fortune from a temple or shrine will cause whatever is written to come true. Time surges grow more frequent, and soon, other supernatural effects start to appear. A young refugee couple walking down the street at night may start to radiate light from their chests when they hold hands. A male refugee begins to sparkle after being offered a free helping of extra meat from the cute waitress at his favorite restaurant. And the elderly refugee couple next door who bicker all the time find themselves plagued by mysterious horns growing out from the sides of their heads.
None of these effects seem to last very long, but they're distressing enough that soon, reports begin flooding in asking the NRL scientists for help. It seems they may not have fully explained just what circumstances the refugees have found themselves in.
What is Kizuna?

In response to the reports, the scientists at NRL put out a message over the network about a special emergency meeting all refugees must attend on the 15th. Once everyone is gathered in the auditorium, they proceed to explain the cause of these happenings: Kizuna, an experimental type of magic that was responsible both for saving Nippon, and for allowing everyone from other worlds to stay here.

"From what we've gathered, Kizuna is a type of bonding magic. It can create bonds between anything, and has been used by the Yokai for thousands of years in things like marriage ceremonies. Of course, it's never been used on this scale before. You see, the only reason you're all able to exist in this world and communicate with all of us... is because we created a bond between you and the country of Nippon itself."
It seems what they know about Kizuna is rather limited. It's not as though it was chosen by choice; there were no other options. As such, they'll be willing to answer any questions the refugees might have, offering as much information as they're able to give. They earnestly wish for the refugees to trust them, with many apologizing once more for any negative effects the Kizuna may have on them.
The scientists will be answering questions in Q&A format. All characters who attend will hear the questions and answers given. These questions will be asked and answered ICly, so please leave any OOC questions about the event itself to the OOC question thread.
For Science!!

With the explanations out of the way, characters will be given the choice to simply go about their day, or volunteer to stay behind for some testing. Now, the scientists have no desire to turn the refugees into their guinea pigs. Rather, they simply want to verify that Kizuna is the cause of all of this, and reassure everyone that it's entirely safe. And for that, they have a few experiments they wish to perform.
Characters are welcome to participate only in the tests they feel comfortable with. While most characters are unlikely to notice anything while bonds are being made, others may feel a tingle, a warmth in their chest, or simply a sense of being more at ease once a bond is made. The extent of these feelings is completely up to you!
Cuddle Science Nanjikan Research Lab, Tokyo
The first is the simplest, but arguably the funniest. Kizuna is theorized to grow stronger with physical contact. Likewise, multiple Kizuna bonds being located in a single place is thought to cause an overall increase in kizuna output. And to test this, characters will have to form cuddle piles in both an attempt to foster Kizuna growth, and increase its output. It's all very scientific -- characters will have small devices pinned to their sleeves to monitor Kizuna levels, as they flop around in piles of soft, warm pillows together! But just because it's for science doesn't mean it's not awkward. Go on. Give your neighbor a snuggle.
Next is a test for bondability, or rather, how easy it is for bonds to be created. Characters will hold speed-dating style introductions with one another, as well as with control-subjects who haven't created any Kizuna bonds. Without making physical contact, characters must introduce themselves, and then proceed to exchange compliments with one another back and forth. They will be encouraged to try and find a commonality between each other in the hopes of fostering a small bond. Of course, should they decide to fling insults instead, no bonds will be created... er, unless they're into that.
The last test is a bit more vague. Characters will be told the test is related to magic resistance, a theoretical property of Kizuna. They will be given two cookies to eat. One cookie is completely normal, while the second cookie contains a minor spell that will cause the character's hair to temporarily change color. However, in reality -- they're both completely ordinary cookies. The real test is for something far more dangerous: the theory that Kizuna can manipulate reality. Will your character fall for it? Unless they truly believe the cookie is magic, nothing will happen. But if they do, and their hair changes color, the scientists will look grave before explaining the actual test, and then excusing themselves to go compile the data.
Anyone who participates in all three experiments will be rewarded with a small amount of money that they're free to spend on whatever they'd like, and will also be offered the opportunity to come back once a week for continued testing. All subsequent experiments will be paid. It's not enough to make a living, but for those who just want some extra spending money, you can't go wrong.
Party Train

Before anyone can leave, the scientists have one more gift: an unlimited rail pass. Trains and trolleys are the most common forms of automotive transportation in Nippon, and while they can see the appeal in having most refugees stay in Tokyo, they want to be sure everyone knows they're free to travel as they please. For all that it may be temporary, Nippon was their new home. And besides, surely it would be best for them to enjoy their time here as much as possible! The less time spent agonizing over the fate of their worlds, the better.
Loop Line Lag Nihonbashi, Tokyo
For those wanting to travel around Tokyo itself, it might take a little practice to figure out where the different lines intersect and transfer. But by far, the line they're sure to ride the most is the Loop Line that circles Tokyo. Once on this line, you'll be connected to every district of the city -- forever, unless you tranfer off of it. As the name implies, the Loop Line is a single circular track, not connected to any other lines. While plans have been made to connect it outward, with the flow of time only now starting to move, it's no wonder that plans for new infrastructre have suffered the most.
But for those who are unfortunate enough to board the last train on friday night unknowingly, they'll find that the train never arrives at a destination. Looking outside, they'll see the same cityscape looped every time they pass through a tunnel, the outside world trapped in an endless dusk. While the world may have been freed, small time loops such as this still pop up every now and again. But it seems commuters are used to this. While many people in Nippon are understandably wary of the lingering time loops, some have chosen to embrace them. Friday Night Loop Lines become wild parties that last well into the night, with free food, drinks, and nonstop music. With individual groups responsible for the quick set-up of each car, there's a wide variety of unique themes to choose from. One car is a masquerade, with masks provided upon entrance and a wide selection of ridiculous costumes. Another, themed around a new type of music gaining popularity at home and abroad. Another appears to just be a cat cafe-- how did they sneak these on the train?? New themes pop up every week, so go wild!
It won't be until the trains begins running again at 6 am that the train seems to catch up with the present time. After going through one more tunnel, it will abruptly become day and stop at the next station, and the party goers pack up to leave before the rush of weekend commuters.
Pleasure Ride Nihonbashi, Tokyo
But not everyone is here just to party. In the back two cars of the train, things seem to be quieter. It would be easy to assume this is where actual commuters who simply missed the previous train go to rest for the night, but no. The moment the door to the train car is opened, characters will be struck by the powerful aroma of incense. All around the car, the lights have been covered by colorful shades, flooding the entire car with a dim, amber-colored glow. Sitting by the door is an older woman in an elaborate kimono, her obi tied in the front, with a voice that's almost intoxicatingly sweet: "Won't you stay awhile?"
This isn't any ordinary incense. It's aphrodisial incense brought in from Yoshiwara, and was specifically crafted to draw in customers from the street and entice them to stay. While the first train seems to be rather tame, full of passengers lounging and openly flirting with staff and fellow passengers alike, the second train is far more risque. The lights are almost completely turned off, and between the darkness outside and the rumbling sound of the train running along the tracks, there's an illusion of privacy, with the atmosphere growing hotter and heavier as the night goes on-- even with everyone staying more or less fully clothed. Those looking for a little heavy petting or more need look no further. After all, what happens on the Loop Line stays on the Loop Line.
Welcome to Yokohama

Outside of the Loop Lines, refugees will now be able to easily travel to the nearby city of Yokohama. On their way there, they might notice the landscape is fairly dramatic. As the train leaves the city limits, looking out into the horizon reveals that much of Kanto seems to be fairly barren outside the cities, with large and unfamiliar bodies of water making it seem as if the train is passing over the ocean itself at times. But things seem to even out once they reach the city. And there's far more things of interest to be found in Yokohama proper!
Sightseeing Slights Kannai, Yokohama
Once the trains come to a stop, passengers will disembark at Kannai Station, located in the heart of Yokohama. With word of the refugees spreading throughout Nippon, those who chose to head straight to Yokohama will be met with a small welcoming committee, who offer them tours and maps to introduce them to the city properly.
One of these tours is a tandem steam-cycle tour. Refugees will be paired up in groups of two and rented out a two-seated steam-cycle. Unlike a traditional tandem bike, both passengers must work together to pilot it! And "pilot" is the right term to use here. Upon reaching a certain speed and pulling a few levers, a pair of wings will extend from the wheels as the bottom release a large amount of steam, causing the steam-cycle to become airborne. Thankfully, there's a particular street lined with trees to help guide them through the sky safely! Or at least, it'd be safer if it wasn't winter, and the trees hadn't become large spiky obstacles. At least they won't be responsible for damages if they crash.
Yokai Watch Zhongguo Town, Yokohama
One of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Yokohama, Zhongguo Town is named for the neighboring country of Zhongguo, and is home to the largest number of human foreigners living in Nippon. While there are a number of streets representing cultures from other nations, by far the largest representation comes from Zhongguo itself, reflected in the district's unique architecture.
Because of this, it's not uncommon to see a wide variety of Yokai living in and around Zhongguo Town as well. For many refugees, this may be their first time seeing them, as they very rarely venture as far as Tokyo! Unlike humans, Yokai are a very diverse group of people, ranging from the those who appear more beast-like to those who are seemingly indistinguishable from humans. They walk on two legs, speak the language of Nippon, and pay taxes just like everyone else!
But for the refugees, they might notice something odd. Whenever they pass by a Yokai, they'll suddenly find themselves stared at, and potentially even questioned as to who they are and where they came from. While most of these questions are asked with polite curiosity (and perhaps a bit of confusion when they explain their status as offworlders), Oni Yokai will become very aggressive and may even attack refugees in small groups. While they won't explain this aggression, piecing together the insults they fling seems to imply they think the refugee has insulted their culture somehow.
If there isn't a friend nearby strong enough to help, calling out will eventually alert one of the many Samurai guards who patrol the city, causing the Oni to flee.
Scammed Port Market, Yokohama
By far, the one place tourists just can't skip when visiting Yokohama is the Port Market. A large shopping arcade stretched across multiple blocks and streets lining the port area, the Port Market is well-known for its delicious food, as well as its rare and unusual merchandise. Although the country is currently isolated due to dangerous time surges in the ocean, that wasn't always the case, so many of the wares that can be bought here are clearly not from Nippon. They range from exotic snacks to fairly dangerous-looking weapons. Are some of these even legal? But most notably, Yokohama is the only city where shops regularly sell coffee, due to the limited supply imported prior to the appearance if time surges! Better stock up before heading back to Tokyo.
Unfortunately, the Port Market is also known for something else: pickpockets. Even if one manages to catch the thief in the act, so long as they can run faster, they can pawn off their stolen goods seemingly in an instant. After which, the pawn shop will only offer it back for a price. It's so obviously a scam, but given that all security in the market is run by the very same organization backing up the scammers, there isn't too much that can be done.
But don't worry! The Market is very forgiving. They'll happily forget the payment in exchange for a few hours of work. It could be working one of the shops, spending an evening playing host to some rich old ladies, or even playing the role of the one who mugged them in the first place. Just make sure not to get on their bad side. Because the Port Market is both the name of the location, and the name of the shady organization that runs it. And they happen to be among one of the largest criminal empires in Nippon. Violence will be met with violence, and only forgiven with increasingly horrible or even illegal work. Some folks may feel right at home here, while others would be better off staying away after dark.
OOC Notes
Welcome to Jikan's first event! Please direct any questions to the Question thread in the OOC plotting post! Any questions involving Kizuna can be included there as well, and I'll try to incorporate any clarifications into the Kizuna page and/or FAQ as needed!
• Please be sure to read the page on Kizuna as well as the Kizuna section on the FAQ! As a reminder, you're free to utilize Kizuna effects whenever you want, all month long!
• As this event is intended to introduce both a key concept and a key setting, it might feel a little disjointed. Future events will be more cohesive!
• Remember kids: Murder is a crime. If your characters chooses to kill the Oni in the Yokohama prompt, they better have the means of destroying the evidence. The Oni themselves will not be looking to kill anyone, just rough them up.
• Characters may also choose to work with the Port Market of their own volition, if they'd like to enter the criminal world of Nippon. Like all jobs, you do not need to sign up, and are free to get creative with what they do while employed.

"I heard a girlie in distress, you alri-"
...Well. This was an interesting sight to see. "...Yeah, ya seem to have to this covered. Gahahahaha!"
[ooc: I'm using paragraph style because html coding is a huge hassle on mobile, I apologise ;v;]
from my patron dark god/eldritch monstrosity. ALSO LMFAO I LEGIT *JUST* LEARNED THAT HTML
---
Ochako certainly does have this covered. She may just be one person, a young and...r-rather tiny young teen, but she's been trained to take on enemies like this, even in a group. She's a hero-in-training, and certainly no pushover!! Besides, having a very versatile superpower does also help considerably.
Having all but clubbed the group of Oni...wi-with another Oni, Ochako releases her quirk and the one she was using as a baseball bat falls atop the heap of its buddies - bruised, beated, and definitely astonished. Honestly, they don't need another bruiser to rough them up, the tiny girl was insult enough to their pride, so seeing this hulk of a man burst on through...yeah. No thanks. They scramble to untangle themselves and scurry off, tossing profanities over their shoulders as well as some very rude hand gestures.
"Honestly, I still don't know what in the world I did to make them so aggressive..." Ochako huffs, dusting off her new outfit. "Um...th-thank you for coming to help, sir, e-even if I...may not have needed it, ehehe. You're very noble." Heroic, even, though she doesn't say just yet.
Shit fam, introduce me sometime
"O-oh right! Anyroad, yeah! Of course! Anytime, lil' missy! Back home I'm kind of a hero, startin' off as a bumblin' young adventurer eager to help anyone in need! Kinda became a habit to go into savin' mode anytime I hear a scream in the distance. Don't even really think about it, my body just kinda moves on its own!"
He laughs, but there's this...tension around him that forms when he mentions that last sentence, almost as if he had a very important story related to that. But that was for another time. "But enough about me! Whatcha doin' out here all by yer lonesome? Ya lost like I am?"
i need 100 gold worth of sage and at least 1 kidney. also the html is <blockquote>TEXT</blockquote>
"O-O-ONI?! Those were Oni?!" Ochako holds her head in her hands. "I-I thought...I thought it was just a quirk they had!! O-Or, y'know...something like that. That makes them look a bit different! Same with the cute, old fox grandpa I met earlier. Was that a kitsune?! Are...are all these creatures a-a-actually...gh...gho...ghos--."
Oh god. Oh god, oh man. From white as a sheet to somewhat green, Ochako begins to tramble. She can deal with villains and criminals no problem, even with quirks that make them look and feel very monstrous and deadly to a T, but actual ghosts and specters? Oh heavens no! She cannot deal with that. Most of what poor Genbu says aftwards is white noise, because Ochako looks like she's about to be sick.
"Urgh...n-no, I...I was just...exploring. Shopping." But now she's fuckin' ready to go home if this is a literal ghost town. Ochako is absolutely afraid of all ghosts. Terrified, actually.
Oh all html coding is a pain on mobile lots of autocorrect, backspacing, switching keyboards etc cri
"Well they ain't people in costumes, that's for sure. And I should know!" The trembling girl is speaking to a professional mascot actor here! "H-hey, relax! It's okay! They're gone now! It's okay, no ghosts here! Yokai aren't even ghosts anyways, they're a whole 'nother thing altogether!"
That probably wasn't helping. Sighing, Genbu kneels down to try to be as eye level to the girl as he can.
"Oi oi, don't fret! Ya got big bro Genbu here! Not all yokai are harmful, and I'm sure we're strong enough to fight off the bad eggs if we team up! So relax! You're only causin' the scratch on yer cheek to bleed out more!" Genbu does his very very best to give lil miss scared-out-of-her-wits a dashing smile, enough for a glint in his teeth to show.
yeaaahhh...mobile does not make html fun or easy
"I...I-I know. I know they're not all ghosts - Y-Yokai are actually...urrp...p-part of my world's history and folklore." Ochako breathes in a few times, putting a hand first to her mouth (j-just in case), then lowers it as she fights off her nerves, and the sick that comes with being scared sometimes. Thank god for her quirk training, it's really helped with her nausea in leaps and bounds. Her gag reflex practically doesn't exist anymore, which is a good thing. It prevents some, uh...messy and gross accidents.
"I-I just don't like...gh-ghosts and m-m-monster stor--eh? My cheek...oh." Touching her face, Ochako actually now notices that she's bleeding, frowning a bit. Heck, she doesn't have any tissues or a hankie that she can clean it with. More than that, though-- "Mmh, they caught me off guard."
no subject
Genbu wanted to ask. Gods did Genbu want to inquire further. That this girl could possibly be from Doma or Hingashi and perhaps share some common ground in this strange Alternate Hingashi...
No. She wasn't Hingan or Doman at all. Anyone who was would have recognized the broken horns Genbu sported where his ears should be, or the white scales that lined his collarbone and arms. Anyone from his realm that was thrown into an unfamiliar world would probably recognize the first sight of familiarity.
It's possible that she probably never saw a Raen before, but...now wasn't the time to ask questions. There were more pressing matters at hand! Genbu snaps his fingers and shuffles through his pouches and utilities attached to his belt, an item that luckily came with him to this strange world. Murmuring 'aha' to himself, Genbu pulls out a kerchief, which he happily reaches out for the trembling girl to take.
"Here! Take this!" He exclaims happily. Boy, he was not liking that pale color on her cheeks. He had to think of a distraction, and fast. Luckily, Genbu is a curious sort, so it wasn't a difficult task for him.
"Hey, hey, listen! What was that all about? You were lifting that oni up and moving it around! I haven't seen that sort of thing since those pixies attacked the Eulmoran soldiers!" Was Genbu's tail...wagging? " 'They caught me off guard' you said...you sound like a really cool hero!"
no subject
Tilting her head as she watches with muted curiosity, Ochako blinks when Genbu retrieves a hankie for her, looking a bit startled before she smiles warmly. Oh, he really is a kind person. Didn't he say before he was a hero? Haha, they kind of have that in common...even if she's still a trainee.
"Thank you...Genbu, was it?" Pressing the hankie to her cut cheek, Ochako dabs at it gingerly, then holds the fabric there, pursing her lips together to not laugh at the wagging tail (C-CUTE!!!) and instead clears her throat. "That was my quirk!! Anything I touch with all five fingers I can make float by removing its gravity! But I learned basic martial arts from an agency back home in my world. It's funny you say 'hero', because that's exactly what I'm training to become!!"
Genbu misunderstands something, more news at 11
Although it did stop eventually, and instead Genbu tilted his head, confused. What in the heck was this girl going on about? Quirks?? That's a quirk? Must be a very interesting world she came from if something like that is considered 'quirky'! And here Genbu thought he was a quirky one, well, according to the people he's been with.
"Huh...well don't ya worry, I think being quirky is cute! I take it as a compliment when people call me that!" Genbu, no. "And it's because of these quirky powers that got ya recognised by this agency and they want ya to become a hero for them?"
This might take a while.
i love him, he's a himbo
"Oh!! I'm sorry, I didn't explain it properly." Ochako waves the hand not holding the hankie to her cheek. "A 'quirk' is what people in my world call the supernatural powers we develop either at birth or when we turn five years old. Nearly everyone has one where I'm from, and they all vary in different ways, passed down and mixing through bloodlines. Mine is Zero Gravity - I can make things and people I touch float by removing their gravity!"
Beefy, kind, and stupid omfg you're right
Genbu listens with wide eyes, his tail once again wagging. Anyone could learn some form of power one way or another on Hydealyn, but to be born with a power naturally was perhaps much rarer, and usually the ones who were born with such miracles belonged to damn near extinct races! ...He thinks.
But nearly everyone? Genbu couldn't even imagine what it's like to live in a world where being born with superpowers was an average sun? What if someone...wasn't born with any powers or didn't obtain any? Boy that sure would suck, huh?
"Wow..." Genbu finally responds, and straightens up. "Sounds amazin'! Yanno, where I come from, we just call that magic! Though uh, must folks just shoot fire and whatnot from long sticks, see,"
Genbu demonstrates by holding an imaginary cane and waving it around.
"But to manipulate gravity itself is something most likely only the elites can do! Golly, ya got yerself a bonafide gift there, lil' lady, erm, sorry, I don't think I ever got yer name?"
i calls em like i sees em
"Ehehe, I suppose so. I'm just so used to it now that I get more excited to learn what sorts of quirks my peers have than if they do or don't have one. Ah, but we also do have technology that helps us as well! Not everyone becomes a hero in my world, but they do sometimes take on jobs that assist heroes with their work. Like designing costumes and gear they can use to help them out."
Oh...o-oh gosh. Ochako turns scarlet at the praise, ducking her head and laughing sheepishly as she rubs the back of her head and shakes her head. "Oh, um, I...I-I'm Uraraka. Uraraka Ochako. Abd, th-thank you, but it's really not the greatest quirk there is, I promise. My friends have great quirks, too!! And it's really all a matter of how to implement them.
My friend, Bakugou, can create explosions from his palms!! Oh, and Iida-kun has engines in his calves that makes him run really fast!! And Tsu-chan has the qualities of a frog!! She can go mlem and shoot out her tongue really far, and hold her breath in water for a long time, and climb up walls, and just recently she learned how to camouflage!"
Ochako has very little confidence in herself, but she could gush about her
plusultra friends for days.uwu
First things first, her name. Ochako, was it? Oh...oh gosh. Too cute. Tea girl. Genbu wanted to comment on that but...then she started saying all sorts of other things. Genbu did his best to follow along.
So these kids are born with random powers? So there's Ochako with her Astrologian/Monk skills, then this other person she mentions having firey black mage skills?? And then...engines??? So...a machinist??
And then she goes on about a poroggo at this point. Genbu would love to see a person with poroggo powers. That would be interesting. But what intrigued him most of all was the idea of this world Ochako came from over all. A world based on heroes and people working around them? That would be an amazing place to visit.
Genbu wanted to say so many things, ask so many questions, but all he could do was smile.
"Heh. Where I come from, anyone can learn something. To use magic, to train to fight, to wield swords...but a hero is something that just...happens by destiny. Well, dependin' on who ya ask, of course."
Genbu frowned for a brief second, knowing all to well how destiny had thrust such a big responsibility on a humble comedian whose only dream in life was to bring joy to a war-torn world of despair.
"Gods, there's so many questions I have about yer world, but..." Genbu looks around, anxious. "Perhaps another time! Over tea and donuts! But right now, we should probably start headin' towards our homes. I don't feel like we should be stickin' around here too long."

Not necessarily born with...the powers are indeed hereditary, passed through genetics, but they don't really start to manifest until five years old, though there have been cases of people getting them at birth, or a few years down the line. It really depends sometimes. There's a lot to it, and studies were still being conducted on them to this day. Quirks were, after all, not a new or old thing. They simply surfaced one day due to a supposed mutation and henceforth became the norm as quirks continued to appear throughout the world.
Were he to ask, Ochako would gladly and happily talk to him. It's a subject she knows much about, after all, but the bittersweet feeling would sooner rear it's ugly head, probably - a world she's still scared about, friends she hasn't seen in weeks, family who are trapped in perpetual time... Those thoughts still haunt her to this day, and have caused quite a few sleepless nights.
"Heeh...it almost sounds like your world is an RPG, Genbu-san, ehehe. Magic doesn't really exist in my world, th-though I guess quirkss are sort of like it, in a way...I guess." She never once thought of them that way, though. Quirks are quirks, that's the beginning and end of it, to her. "You can always ask, but you're right...in the middle of the street probably isn't the best place!! I'd be more than happy to meet with you again, of course, and if you're staying around the same area, we can walk home together, or take a train. I'd love to learn about your home as well."
And she means that sincerely. A fantasy world...it sounds so cool!! Dragons, sorcerers, knights in armor, kings and queens and all sorts of magical creatures!! Ochako's favorite sorts of stories are fantasies, after all, and fiction.

wild ridetrain. Perhaps one day they can have another tea ceremony."I uh....I actually don't know what I'm doing." Genbu admits, sheepishly rubbing the back of his neck. "Don't even know what area this is. I just remembered seeing that uh...that train, you call it, see? And people were walkin' inside and I followed without thinkin', next thing I know, I'm inside, and the darn thing starts movin'! I've been frantically runnin' through the rooms until finally the train stops and I got the hell outta dodge! And then I guess I ended up here wanderin' around aimlessly until I hear ya screamin' and uh...here I am!"
Genbu gives Ochako a cheesy grin as he does a little 'tada!' pose. "And I'd love to take ya home but...just how far are we from the dorms into uuuuuh damn what was that place called uh Pokey Toe? We don't have to take the train again, do we?"
no subject
"Well, I'm not sure how far it is from here to Nihonbashi where me and my friend are staying together, but...I came on the train myself, so I'd say it'd take a train ride back to get home easily." She gives him a bit of an apologetic look. Ochako understands that vehicles sometimes aren't for everyone, and the train definitely was odd. "But this time we can go together if it made you uncomfortable!! There were some pretty relaxing cars when I stepped away from the ones that were loud and lively."
no subject
And then, he feels...strange. His body warms up, his chest tingles a little, and there's this strange, gentle vibration that runs through his body and through his horns.
And then, this...small euphoria fills him. This strange sensation that made him feel...like everything was going to be okay. Relief. The hell was that??
"...Well if it's the only way to get back, I suppose I'll have to suck it up, huh? Forgive me, last time I was anywhere near one, it spat ghosts at me!" Wait, shit, he shouldn't have said that. "Uuuh b-but don't worry!! I fought them all and they're all gone, I promise!!!"
no subject
"Hahahaha!! Well, I didn't see any ghosts on the train, and you'd know, because I'd be about as pale as one myself if there were!!" Ochako holds her sides a bit, dabbing at the corners of her eyes with the sleeves of her shirt, shaking her head and trying to collect herself again. "I think there may be other ways, but it'd be more expensive and time consuming, probably... But I really don't mind staying with you for the trip back, Genbu-san, you're really nice!! And funny!"

But what about Ochako? She must have been terrified as well. Genbu had been given a big responsibility back home and has been fighting great beasts and wars for several years. But this girl...she was still in training. Genbu can only imagine how terrified she must be.
But it wasn't really pity Genbu felt. Ochako is strong, he thought. He saw her. He didn't feel the need to protect her like she was helpless, but support her as a companion. Okay, some desire to protect her was there, but that was just Genbu being himself. He's had his ass kicked by people half Ochako's size, underestimating is one thing he learned to keep to a minimum.
All these thoughts ran through his head as he smiled and watched Ochako laugh, feeling his worries melting away.
"Heh, well ya seem to know more about trains better than I do, Occhan!" Already decided on a nickname, looks like. "So I don't mind going on a train again with ya!"

Occhan. She giggles a bit more - it's not a bad nickname, her closer friends sometimes would call her 'Chako-chan', or something similar. Then of course, there was Bakugou's nickname...Kacchan. Her smile frays a bit, remembering the boy who calls Bakugou that, but...she'll see him again. All of them. They're all strong, they'll find a way back to one another.
"Ehehe, well...trains are actually the primary mode of public transportation back where I'm from. A-At least if you're going somewhere very far within the country. So It's similar here, but...different? Old fashioned, I guess." She rubs the back of her head a little bit, looking sheepish. "I-I kinda like it..." The familiarity. "Let me know anytime you want to head back, or if you want to look around this place more."
Ochako doubts anyone will mess with her now, after the scene she made.

How many of these kinds of parallel Domas are there??
"Ah..." Now that Ochako mentioned it...just what exactly was this place? And why were there so many interesting individuals around? Much different than the hyur's he saw when he first stepped out of that building! And why were they so friendly with him? He had to admit, he was intrigued.
"Well...I suppose it wouldn't hurt to explore around a bit! I will say this place has my attention! And with us teamin' up...no oni will dare to mess with us!"
going to wrap this up if that's okay!!
Though, Ochako is also finding there are dozens of parallel Japans as well. So many people she's met have been from a world similar to hers, but also different in a way. It just goes to show how truly vast the world is, and how things can be exactly the same, but also incredibly different as well. She'd really like to hear about some of those other worlds one day, to learn more about the people she's starting to befriend.
"I thought so, too!! It's always better to travel with someone else, and between the two of us..." Ochako rolls her arms like a pitcher about to throw a fiery fastball, or a fighter winding up a thunderous punch. "We'll be fine!!"
So, with no real heading in mind, the two will begin their exploration - marvel at a few of the more colorful looking Yokai and vice versa, as the Yokai approach them curiously - perhaps have a spot of lunch, and generally enjoy one another's company for the duration of their time together. That is, until they're ready to take the Loop Line back to their respective places they call home.
Yeye imma just gonna put down my own lil conclusions here
If anything, the people back where he first came out of the building seemed much colder to him. And he had no clue why.
Nope, no idea at all, he thought, as his tail wagged. Oh well, he'll figure it out eventually!
Fortunately, the train ride home was much more peaceful than previously. The day ends when Genbu walks Ochako back to her home, making sure she is safe...
And finds another little spot to camp in.
