⌛ Who: Zhou Zishu and Wen Kexing

The nails have been out for a couple days, and he feels stronger by the day. It's a relief - even the lingering bone-deep ache is accepted. He's alive. And he can still feel his meridians are intact. No more lingering, looming death to worry his soulmate or those who have become important to him.

...He's still restless. But that means he's regaining strength after making himself do little more than sleep, meditate, and eat.

"Lao Wen?" He calls out, pulling a thicker robe around himself as he waits for his soulmate to return to his side. When that happens, he pushes himself to his feet.

"Let's take a walk." Meaning he needs a walk but he also wants to reassure his Kexing that he's strong enough for it...and enjoy the time outside all at once.

Of course, Kexing pokes his head into the room when his beloved calls. But he gives him a weary glance, looking him over as if to be the one to ultimately decide (which he knows isn't the case). He breathes in deeply and nods, looping an arm around Zishu's.

"The fresh air will be good for you."

Of course. Zishu waits for his soulmate's decision, then relaxes a little when his wish is granted. It's always easier when Kexing cooperates, and in this...he'd wanted to have it, to not fight over a walk.

He nods and leans a little against his soulmate in wordless thanks - not precisely necessary, but he knows the other man worries intensely about his health.

"The park has benches to rest on." And enjoy being outside and feeling the sun on his face.

At least Zishu is allowing him to come along rather than sneaking out. This way, Kexing can keep a watchful eye on his soulmate. Of course, he'd agree to that. A smile tugs his lips as Zishu leans against him.

"Come, the weather is warm today. It will be pleasant for a walk."

Exactly! He's being good! The fact he's growing exhausted by behaving is beside the point. He hasn't stopped just yet. Just started pushing now that the nails are out.

He still sleeps an absurd amount.

"Aah," he hums with a soft smile. Zishu starts for the door, amiably holding onto his soulmate's arm and not letting himself hurry. For one thing, there's still a deep ache that bothers him. Moving quickly...unless necessary? Not yet.

The sleeping has Kexing less worried than he was before. At least Zishu is accepting rest. Best that he not push himself too soon, especially now during his recovery. Though he still worries, Kexing does his best not to oppress his husband with them. Ah, but he's such a mother hen.

The slow pace doesn't bother him. It's leisurely. Just what they need after so much excitement.

For his Lao Wen. Zishu truly doesn't mind the mother henning. Oh, he occasionally shoves back for some air, but not as much as he could. Wen Kexing has his heart, and so he will go to great lengths to make him happy.

He hasn't once regretted choosing to live, since meeting Kexing and finding a way.

They walk, enjoying the peace of just being together, leaning on each other (physically and not). Once outside, Zishu draws in a breath, lifting his face up to the sky though his eyes close.

There is something pleasant about simply being together. Kexing always appreciates their time together, more so when it's just the two of them in their own little world. Kexing's dark eyes fall on his lover looking up toward the sky. They follow the curve of his cheek, the line of his jaw, the column of his throat.

Breathtaking!

They could be doing nothing at all and it would still feel perfect. Zishu feels his beloved's gaze and it brings a faint smile to his lips but he only takes another deep breath. Then lets it back out and tilts his head towards his husband, eyes slowly blinking open to settle on the other man.

"The seasons are starting to change." He's missed the scents. Little delights that he can enjoy again.

"It will be autumn soon," he comments as agreement. "A-Xu," he says, suddenly looking ahead. "Which is your favorite season?"

He chuckles a little, quiet, and leans against the other man for affect. "I am the Lord of Four Seasons Manor. I'm supposed to say I love them equally."

Teasing, of course.

And the grin gives him away! Zishu lets out a flicker of a dramatic sigh before subsiding. "Spring is when the plum trees bloom." Which hold so many memories, but he can never forget them.

Kexing gives Zishu's arm a playful swat at his initial response. But he can tell from the smile and the tone that Zishu does have a favorite that he will confess. Somehow, hearing about plum blossoms in spring seems fitting for Zishu.

"I adore the plum blossoms, as well."

The swat makes him laugh and aim a playful little pinch at an arm. But he smiles softly at his soulmate's answer.

"What do you think of looking for a house here, where we can plant trees to bloom through the seasons?" Recreate the effect of his home.

A thoughtful look crosses Kexing's face and he smiles, warm and gentle.

"I have no objections."

It's nice to have a little piece of a dream, even in this place. Yes, it's better here than home where there are enemies and grudges to be settled. Here there's none of that.

"I would like that."

He loves that smile. It brings a sense of pure peace to him, his expression relaxes as he looks at his soulmate.

"Aah. Then we will." They'll find a way to make it happen.

"A-Chen had me thinking a few months ago, of starting a clinic. With so many like us not trusting the hospitals here, it only makes sense to offer something more familiar. He already agreed to help teach me what he knows, and will help with patients."

And now that Zishu is cured and healing...they can relax a bit.

"Oh?" A single brow rises, curious. Honestly, he can see Zishu being happy helping others in such a way. And any endeavor with A-Chen is bound to be a good one. The man is so full of goodness it inspires protective feelings in all around him.

"I can see you playing nurse."

He'd been an assassin for so long. Getting the chance to actually help others again, to put his knowledge to good use and work with Xiao Xingchen…

Yes. He thinks he could be happy doing that.

Of course his soulmate's comment makes him grin.

"He wears it better."

"It's true, he does," Kexing teases. "Good thing he'll be helping you. I trust him."

His grin only grows before he gives a playful little shove.

"You know your herbs too, Lao Wen. Would you help us?"

Kexing wobbles dramatically, still clinging to his beloved. "Helping people isn't my greatest strength."

When Kexing wobbles...so too does Zishu! And still clinging right back!

"Aah? You help me a great deal!"

"You are a special case," he retorts with an affected pout. "Besides, wouldn't I just be jealous that your attention is on someone else?"

He can't help the soft smile at that adorable pout.

"I don't need another person to make you jealous."

Kexing continues to pout, though he knows what Zishu says is true. "Why must you be cruel to me?"

Zishu laughs. "Am I?" That pout will be the end of him! They both know where the other's heart belongs.

"You are!" Kexing likes their teasing banter. It makes things feel normal. A great weight of worry has been lifted from Kexing now that Zishu is on the mend and not actively dying.
