[ Her solidifying his assumptions only brings up more questions, particularly ones that revolve around the nature of the magics that bring them here. Vennessa has long since died, existing in his world only in the form of the stories and the legends passed down through her descendants and the city she served. Childe's own knowledge of her only went so far as the tales his father would share, since his adventures had taken him near and far from home.

Honestly... she's different from what he would have expected. Some kindness he'd assumed, but she exhibited none of the powerful, womanly grace he'd imagined or the matronly air one would assign to the first Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius. She was almost... plain. An everyday person, nothing at all like the hero the Mondstadt people affectionately elevated and idolized. ]

That's not exactly what I meant, but I'm glad to see even a great hero like yourself has a sense of humor. You're not at all like what I expected, you know. I'm not sure if I should feel more relieved or disappointed.

[ He matches her playfulness with his own, doing little to show any kind of reverence or respect a historical figure like herself might deserve. She's not demanded it of him and, when he thinks about it, he doesn't expect that she will. She doesn't seem the sort.

It will be really interesting when he inevitably returns to Tevyat with all these stories tucked under his belt. Perhaps he'll have to write his sisters whenever he gets back. ]

Then what did you mean?

[Maybe later on in her life she would take on that air that Childe expected to see but right now she's a woman who has barely just escaped ten years of slavery, someone who would have no idea of what lay ahead of her were it not for this place and is still trying to come to terms with just how much her future actions will shape Mondstadt in a thousand years to come. It's a heavy and humbling thing to know that even after so many years she will still be remembered.

And she takes no insult to any lack of reverence Childe might show. After all, she sees herself only as a person and he is right in thinking she wouldn't demand such deference. If she ever became that kind of person, wouldn't she be just as bad as the nobles that she would fight to overthrow?]

And I'm afraid I can't help what you expected. [She shrugs then, giving a helpless little smile.] I can only be what I am. If you're disappointed, then...

[Another, slightly smaller shrug. She hasn't dropped the smile.]

I want to do the right thing for the people. No one was more surprised than me to find my name is still spoken so fondly a thousand years later.

[ There really is no way for him to say it without sounding like a simp, and even so far removed from his homeland it's still a little strange to show deference to anyone that isn't the Tsaritsa. He imagines it doesn't hurt to give respect where respect is due, and Vennessa is the sort of historical figure that people can't help but to prostrate themselves before without her needing to demand it of them.

While he is not Mondstadt citizen there's no denying the importance of Vennessa's role in history and the impact she'd had on it. Childe knows the stories well enough. ]

Hey now, I said I wasn't sure. Don't go putting words in my mouth, Comrade. [ The teasing comes naturally to him even if it's in the face of a Teyvat hero that should have been long gone. The breeze kicks up, bringing with it the salty tang of the sea and the a gentle ocean spray. He thinks he can hear the sounds of birds far off, adding to the already surreal air that seems to have enveloped the situation. ]

I suppose a hero doesn't realize the importance they'll play in history at the time. There's plenty of people from Mondstadt around here for you to meet. Maybe they can tell you better than I can.

[As the wind rises around them Vennessa has a clear reaction to it. She closes her eyes and lets it wash over her, breathing in the scent of the ocean.

What Childe says pulls a chuckle from her, then a small shake of her head.]

If you're wondering if I know what I'll do in the future... In your past. I do. To a point. I expect that I haven't been told everything.

[She thinks that Venti is probably keeping things from her because he believes that it might just be too much for her to take in, and she hasn't pressed him on it. If he isn't telling her something she knows that it's for a very good reason.

But Vennessa shrugs then, and grins over at the young Snezhnayan.]

I'm just a person. I don't think you'll have any problem treating me like one, right?
