Open Catch-All (TDM Prompts)

I. Starry Night - Pond

Times like this were peaceful for him. When he could stand at the edge of a pond like this and see the stars in the sky as well as the reflection of the water. It reminded him so much of quieter times before everything had changed in his life. When he was just the Night Immortal with his Dream Beast at his side. Before all the pain and suffering...so much caused by his own hand.

Embracing his element, he stepped forth onto the water, walking across the surface with only soft ripples following. Soon the dragon was several feet away from the shore and just looking up at the sky above him. He smiled softly as he did, a breeze softly stirring his hair.

Hearing someone behind him, he looked over his shoulder to see who had joined him.

II. Starry Night - Daytime Stalls

Curious about the stalls that appeared for the meteor shower, Runyu visited them during the day. The food looked good but he wasn't hungry and ignored it for the most part. The trinkets though? These had his attention. Little toys and hair pins and other accessories. He couldn't help but to smile as he looked them over, sometimes picking them up to inspect them before setting them aside.

It was like he was looking for just the right thing. Which was honestly true. He was looking for little gifts for his loved ones. Something special to give to them. They never asked for that but it still felt like something he wanted to do all the same.

Lifting up a pin, he hummed softly then looked at the person next to him. "What do you think?"

III. Starry Night - Meteor Shower

Once all the lights were out, he moved to where he could have a good view of the sky. The shower was stunning, much like the ones he would provide the Mortal Realm in the past. It brought a smile to his lips to watch it happen. "...beautiful."

Near him he heard whispers of which on the rainbow tails. For a second he considered it then shook is head as he looked to the sky again. There was nothing he wanted to wish for. Nothing that he felt he could deserve to wish for. It was better that all that remained in his own world. Unless he wanted to wish for Xufeng's happiness which he already knew his brother would have in the end with Jinmi and those beautiful children.

So, he was just content to watch instead. "I wonder who controls the night sky here..."

Perhaps, but who can say? Maybe she would deem him worthy of a second chance. After all, whatever burden he carries, he seems to do with equal parts guilt and grace.

"You're most welcome."

Runyu gave her a warm look then bowed his head to accept the words. She was a kind person. One with a good heard. She likely made for a very good leader to her people, of that he was certain.

"I hope to learn a great deal from you about leadership that I can hopefully take to my rule when I return."

"I look heavily to others for guidance. I have no skill in military leadership or dealing with the religion that dominates humanity. My only advice would be to strive to do the most good for the most people," he pauses, thoughtful. "Not in the 'greater good' kind of way, but a more practical, meaningful way that makes people's lives easier."

"I certainly try to these days. My father had a rather corrupt rule before I took the throne. It's been a lot of cleaning up messes as well as ruling." His own messes too but that was another matter. Entirely. "It's a delicate balance to deal with the past and the future at the same time."

She nods in understanding. At least any corruption Atheva had to deal with at home was not widespread. She could see how it would be a very delicate balancing game, making it hard to find trusted advisors rather than those with an agenda of their own. Plus whatever was in his past that weighed so heavily might contribute, as well.

"I hope, when the time comes for you to return, that you're able to find the second chance you found here."

"Even if I cannot that's alright." He looked out at the streets, watching people go about their lives. Visiting shops, chatting together, children pointing at things they wanted... It was all so peaceful. So normal. "I got to have a chance here to see it. That's enough for me. One way or another I will carry that with me the rest of my life."

She smiles gently and nodded toward the items he bought in the market. "Did you meet them here?"

Looking down at the items, he smiled fondly and then nodded. "I did. I have two men I love and they both saved me in their own ways. They're very dear to me."

Her eyes widen slightly at the mention of two people, but she quickly recovered. Perhaps that's common in his world.

"Then you are doubly blessed."

He laughed softly at her surprise, seeing it before she could recover.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to laugh. Your surprise was cute. I wasn't expecting to fall for more than one person either if I'm to be honest."

"I have heard of such relationships in my world, but they are not the norm," she explains. "As I understand, it's most common among human nobles who marry for status and take another lover for affection."

"I could see why that would be the case. I was in such a status once but I do prefer love. So the three of us have fallen for each other and we are all equals despite our varied backgrounds." Which was honestly all he'd ever wanted. Love without status.

"I understand that. My husband is one of precious few who treated me differently because of my status." Her voice and expression soften at the thought of it. Cullen had every reason to despise her and never did. He always approached her with an open mind and heart.

"I'm not always sure I'm worthy of the love they give me. But I have learned that it's best to embrace it rather than judge my worth." He gave her a fond smile. She was a kind soul from what he could tell. To hear that her husband treated her as he did? He was glad for it.

"Should he ever come I'd like to meet him. If you don't mind."

"Should he ever come, I shall introduce him to everyone I know," she teased with a gentle smile. "But you will be first. He's a good man. I think you would get on well."

Then her smile shifted to something a little more serious. "Forgive me if I'm being too bold, but if your partners deem you worthy of their affections, how can you not be?"

It was truly a fair question to ask. He couldn't fault her for that and lowered his head humbly. "I have committed a number of horrible crimes in my lifetime. Some which could be considered unforgiveable. So I often question my worthiness of their love when I know I don't deserve it after what I have done."

"We all make mistakes," she assured. "Some worse than others." There were so many ways her leadership of the Inquisition could've gone wrong. Indeed, in the eyes of many, though she saved their world from utter desolation, she was still nothing more than an elven heretic. An upstart unworthy of the respect of those around her. It could have made her careless if she let them get to her. It could have cost more lives if she didn't have people to help her navigate the politics.

"That's not for you to decide. It's for them."

"It is for them to decide. But knowing that and stopping emotions that are hundreds of years old? That is not always an easy task."

He smiled a little and shook his head. He knew his crimes and so did they. Yet they still loved and supported him. That meant the world to him. "I don't know where I would be without them. So I live to have them be happy. Perhaps I'll never find full redemption in my lifetime but at least I can know I brought joy to theirs."

She nodded. While she couldn't understand what it might be like to carry such feelings for hundreds of years, she did understand how hard it is to let go of long-held thoughts and beliefs.

"You are a good man." Now. Here. In the present. "I can see why they are happy to be with you."

He had to wonder if she would feel that way if she knew what he was capable of. But he didn't bring that up. There was no point to it really. She didn't know and there was no need to tell someone he just met all those details.

"I think that you are good as well. I can tell you make your husband a very happy man just by speaking to you."

"We are fortunate. We've survived much together. Perhaps because of each other." He was the commander of her armies, after all. It was his guidance that won decisive battles and brought back as many alive as possible. They never wasted life needlessly.

"You share a strong bond. That will take you far, I can assure you." Because he had seen it happen and he had recently discovered what it was like with his lovers. "As long as you two always make each other feel treasured you will always find peace even in trials."

"I believe you are correct. And that you speak from experience. You've been very kind to me, Runyu. For that, I wish you every happiness this world can offer."

He gave a soft laugh and lowered his head. To accept those words as humbly as possible for they were very kind. "If you ever wish to know more about dragons in my own world you are always welcome to come to me with your questions. You would not be the first here."

"Thank you. That is very generous." She wondered what dragons in her world would have to say if they could speak the common language. Nothing good, probably, hunted as they were. She can't imagine anything but fear and anger from them... well deserved, of course!

Atheva finished the last sip of her tea and set the cup down. "It's been my pleasure speaking with you. I shouldn't keep you from your beloveds much longer."
