Not that I'm aware of. Horses were more something that Linyuan dealt with more than I did.

That did not, however, mean he wasn't sure if animals were frightened of his dark energy or not. As far as he knows? There wasn't an animal out there who was actually afraid of him and the energy that he used.

Ah, that's right. His sweet, 'helpless' nobles.

There were perks to status, some even Ouyang experienced as he climbed the ranks (through equal parts his own efforts and Esen's favoritism). Before serving in the Prince of Henan's army, he was a slave. When he became General of the Prince's forces, Esen gifts him a living for the times when they weren't traveling on campaign; a compound complete with a contingent of slaves to see to his needs. Most of which he dismissed as they had once served together as equals. Thus, he was familiar with such mundane tasks as cleaning house and preparing food.

"Forgive my forgetfulness."

Mingye would probably laugh if he knew that Ouyang considered him 'helpless'. He was not, in all honesty, helpless. He prefered to use his dark energy and that's what he grew up with. Being the heir of the Darknight Court there were servants and elders that did everything for him, as well as the others.

What did you forget?

It's a bit teasing, but he's partially serious too.

"It was not part of your duty to tend to animals," he mused without judgment. "The Mongols provided us with anywhere from two to eight horses so we would not over-work them. Of course, we also had to care for them."

No, it was not part of my duty to tend to the animals, or to anyone else. Actually, his only job was to find the celestial fruit and bring it home. Or to outdo Jun Linyuan. Anything that would bring pride to the Darknight Court.

"What do you nobles do with all your free time?" There's no slight intended in the question. He's simply curious how people with status like Mingye's spend their free time.

Following father's orders and fighting with Jun Linyuan every chance that I got.

It used to be, for him, that anything Jun Linyuan had he wanted. The man had found Feng Wu and he'd ended up wanting her too. Jun Linyuan had been sent after the celestial fruit and so had he. They had been child adversaries.

Let's get inside so I can shift. Easier for me to talk to you.

It meant that Ouyang would get more than clips of his thoughts.

He nodded in agreement. They weren't far and once they approached their home, Ouyang opened the door to let his winged lover inside. He'd give Mingye a chance to change forms and re-dress before heading to the kitchen to prepare the hare for their supper.

"This Jun Linyuan you speak of. Friend or foe?"
