[Rude didn't actually mind, he wasn't bothered in the slightest. In fact he gave a low chuckle before he reached for his own drink.]

And when you're not staring, how have you been, Zack?

The not-creepy kind!

[Zack that isn't how it works you giant goober. His drink is pretty good - it doesn't taste like fruit-flavored alcohol, at least, which is a plus. It'd take a lot to get him tipsy, though . . . or so he thinks]

I've been pretty good - you know, trying to keep busy and mostly stay out of trouble. [the fun kind of trouble is just fine, but as for the rest he's been careful] How about you? Especially now that Tseng is here.

[Okay, you get an actual laugh for that. Rude is feeling pretty relaxed right now, and maybe on his way to being tipsy. So he was in a good mood.]

How's that working out for you?

[Zack staying out of trouble seemed like a recipe for trouble all by itself.]

House is getting packed. It's... nice.

[After having hidden for so long and then living in a small apartment, the bigger house was great. They were settling in to a routine.]

[wow Rude he is an UPSTANDING CITIZEN who . . . really, Zack hasn't run into any trouble, either, so - ] It's working out pretty well so far.

[the thought of all the Turks living in one place does make him chuckle. Rufus was staying with them too, wasn't he? Geez]

It must get pretty exciting over there. Glad to hear it's nice, though.

[Rude smiled at that.

And yes. It was nice. Until it eventually changed.]

It's got it's ups and downs. All in all life is better here.

You must have noticed?

[Zack shifts to sink further into the water, finishing off his drink]

That life is better or something else?

Better. Easier. Less stressful.

[Even the stressful parts were easier to handle. It was like a great weight had been lifted off of Rude shoulders. It had taken a little while to adjust, but now? Now he was learning to relax and that, Rude thought, was a good thing.]

I might've noticed that, yeah.

[no orders to make him second guess anything, no being pushed this way and that and running missions just to keep himself busy.

. . . no running from the Turks or Genesis almost non-stop. Yeah, he definitely noticed]

I think I'm finally starting to get used to it.

You should. You've a second chance at the life you should have had.

[Rude reached for his drink and, after finishing it off, signalled for it to be refilled.]

I think we could all do with this break from reality.

It's pretty close to what I thought it'd be. A lot less stressful.

[you know, he's just going to have his drink refilled, too]

I don't know if it's a break so much as . . . being in the back of mind instead of the front, if that makes sense?

[Rude raised a brow.]

I'd meant being in a new world. A break from our own world.

[And the obligations within. And for Zack, it was a whole new life. There was no future back home for him until he was reborn. But here? Here he could do the things he'd always wanted. And, as he said, bring those things from the back of his mind all the way to the front.

Rude went quiet then as a waitress came to refill both of their drinks. He thanked her with a smile and took a sip before he spoke again.]

It feels good seeing everyone happier.

Hah, true. From what I hear and know, everyone could use the break.

[an understatement, but not a bad one. Zack offers his thanks to the waitress too and takes a sip as well, making a noise of agreement]

It does. I'm pretty glad everyone's trying to get along, too. I know it probably isn't easy.

Strange, though.

[He can't help admitting.]

Getting along with Sephiroth, for starters. The thing with Aerith. Cloud lightening up. [Rude tilted his head to look over at Zack with a bit of a smirk.] Even sitting here with you. Getting along like old friends. It's easier than expected.

[the look he gives Rude over his glass is amused, even if he tries for a "no kidding?" tone]

Getting along with you is probably the least strange out of all of those, man.

I'll take that as a compliment.

[Gladly, in fact. Though the fact he was chatting to a dead man was pretty damn strange to Rude. He wasn't going to point that part out though. Zack didn't seem too interested in talking about that and Rude didn't blame him.]

I like it here. Feels... like a fresh start.

[and when he thinks about it, he's kind of glad for all the weird stuff. Between that and everyone playing nice plus this place, there's no room for anything else. It's pretty perfect, at least to him, considering where he stands in it all]

It kinda does. Fresh start, fresh slate - can't complain, right?
