"He said that, huh? Ever the romantic..." Duo heaved a sigh. To have just come out and said that to Wufei was a pretty shitty thing for Reno to have done, especially knowing that Wufei was his boyfriend. It annoyed him a bit and he'd have to go and yell at Red later. But for now, Wufei was his priority.

"It's sweet you'd care about my honour, Wu. But it's fine. Doesn't bother me a bit. He can say whatever he wants, won't change the facts." He took a breath of his own then and let it out on a sigh. "And the fact is... he did. I got myself in a stupid situation and it was the only way out. But it was before you showed up. I'm not ashamed of it. And if anyone else knows I don't think they'd care much. I'm just sorry it's gotten you all tied up like this." Duo moved his hands then, slow and gentle, he rubbed them up and down his boyfriends arms. "It's okay. It was past and you're my future. Next time he tries to get a rise outta you, go over his head. Don't let him bring you down."

Wufei huffed softly. “I’m not jealous,” he assures, even as he starts to calm. Having Duo there, touching him and drawing him away from his anger helps considerably. “I just… he didn’t even have a good reason for saying it so openly, like he thought it would be enough to… I don’t even know what his stupid, pig-faced, bird-haired idiot brain was thinking.”

At least now the insults weren’t in Chinese. That was probably a good sign.

"I know." He assured him gently, smiling. Of that he was certain. If Wufei had been jealous hen this would have been a different kind of encounter. What Duo was doing was just explaining himself so that there was nothing hidden between them.

There was a laugh then as he finally drew Wufei into his arms and wrapped them around him. "Reno likes to say stuff, doesn't need a reason. Does it to me too. Just gotta brush it off or play along. Just sorry he took it there with you, he shouldn't have done that. I'll talk to him." And maybe kick him in the balls for upsetting his boyfriend.

He huffs again, but lets Duo pull him close, nestles himself into the warm comfort he finds there, and feels the last of his actual rage smother under it. He's still irritated, to be sure, but this is much better. He hummed softly at Duo's words and sighed heavily, pressing a little kiss to Duo's cheek. "Well, don't let him know it actually riled me up this much. He seems like the kind of guy that would take it as an invitation," he grumped. He was only allowed to be driven mad by one man, and he was currently nestled into his arms.

"Hah yeah he would. Don't worry, your secrets safe with me." Duo kissed the top of Wufei's head before closing his arms more about him, damn near cuddling him right there in the kitchen. He felt guilty. Reno had only gone to Wufei because he'd sent him there thinking that they would have both gotten a laugh out of it. Duo hadn't, not even for a moment, thought things would go the way they had. "I'm sorry this happened, love. But I brought a peace offering? Those red bean buns you like!"

Wufei hummed softly, relaxing into the snuggle until his little bout of fury gave way to the pink sparkly cloud that seemed to follow him around their house these days. "I was plenty rude to him, but not enough to justify what he did," he added.

But then Duo mentioned the buns and he lifted his head up to peer around, to get a look at them. "From up the street?" Yes, those were always a good bribe.

Duo was actually beginning to like that sparkle cloud and even breathed a sigh of relief on its return.

"He probably deserved it. I can be an ass to him too. But it's kinda how we are..." Which reminded him of something Reno had said, but he pushed it aside for the moment so he could loosen his arms and grin. "Yeah, they had some left so I grabbed em."

"You," Wufei paused, to give him a sweet little kiss, "are the best," he decided, grinning at the bag. "Do you want to devour them now like mannerless heathens, or should I make dinner first?"

"Dunno bout that but I'll take it." Duo, still grinning, accepted the kiss and finally let his arms drop, freeing Wufei to go and investigate the bag.

"I'm down for being a little heathenistic. Some days you just gotta have dessert first, Wu! But I wouldn't say no to some tea to go with em." And so he left his boyfriend's side to go and put the kettle on the heat to warm up some water to do just that.

"The best," Wufei reiterated as he reached the bag and pried it open, letting the warm air hit him in the face and sighing happily. He pulled the buns out and sniffed them, before bringing a pair over to Duo and handing him one, biting mercilessly into the other. "You didn't even know I was upset and you brought something home to cheer me up. Best."

"... I had an idea." Duo replied carefully after taking one of the buns from Wufei with a smile. He settled back against the counter and looked down at the bun in his hand as the water in the kettle slowly came to the boil behind him.

"Reno mentioned things might've gone sideways... Just didn't realise how bad. I kinda..." He smiled a bit. "Just remember thinkin 'He's scrappy, he'll put Reno in his place.' Then the conversation turned to how me and him had attracted similar guys. How opposites attract. And how I was glad I'd attracted you."

Wufei hummed softly, settling comfortably into Duo's personal space with a little smile. "Just one?" he teased lightly.

He snorted softly at Reno's warning. "Good, then he doesn't know how far under my skin he got," he huffed a little. He was willing to admit to Duo how upset he'd been, but he definitely wasn't okay with Reno knowing. Duo continued, though, and had Wufei smiling softly. "We are opposites, aren't we? But we cover each other's weaknesses quite nicely, I think." Together they were nigh unstoppable.

His free arm easily went around Wufei's waist comfortably, as if it belonged there.

"It's the same with him and his partner. You ever met Rude? Reminds me more of Heero than you though. Just without the glare. Hard to tell behind those shades though..." A little shake of his head and then Duo grinned and leaned in to softly kiss Wufei's cheek. "Cover each others weaknesses and strengths. And you're my strength." Waxing poetic now, was he? He could blame that on Wufei. He rubbed off on him in the best of ways.

Wufei shook his head when asked if he'd met Rude, smiling a little at the comparison. "So... like Aerith and Sephiroth," he agreed with a little nod.

And leaned in for a kiss when Duo started in with all that sappy stuff. "If you're not careful, we're going to start attracting bees," he teased with a smile, and took another bite from his bun. "Though, if you keep bribing me with these, I might stay even if the whole house turned into a hive. Poor Shiro would be completely overwhelmed."

"Like those too, yeah." Seemed there was a lot of them around then. Maybe that's what high energy people needed? A calmer, more centred presence to make them feel complete. Duo knew that's what he needed.

He smiled into the kiss, softly returning it too. "Why bees? Why not butterflies?" Laughing, Duo have Wufei a little squeeze before letting him go so he could turn around. The bun was set on the counter so he could pull down cups to make tea. "Shiro'd have the time of her life if a bunch of bugs showed up! She's get round and fat on em. Like one of those buns."

Calmer, more centered presence? Surely Duo was thinking of someone else. He chuckled warmly as Duo offered butterflies as an alternative. "Because I would mind them far less," he teased lightly. "The point was that I'm willing to put up with unreasonable things to be with you," and stepped away to give Duo room to work as he turned to the tea.

"She probably would. We'd have to change her name to Bao," he grinned. "Maybe I should collect some crickets to set loose in the house for her benefit." Not that she seemed to have much trouble hunting down creepy crawlies as it was.

No, he was thinking of Wufei. Sure he could be a bit high-strung at times, but he could be so down-to-earth and could help bring Duo right back down there with him.

Duo was laughing as he made the tea. "Unreasonable things like me?" He teased. "Don't care let bugs loose in the house, Wu. Otherwise I'm gonna make you hunt them down, not the cat!" No, no bugs in the house, thank you. Except for the ones Shiro brought in wrapped in silk for supper later.

Said about the man currently sporting a sparkly pink cloud as an accessory. Wufei laughed, too, giving his head a shake. "You're only unreasonable sometimes," he replied lightly, and grinned when he was warned against releasing bugs in the house. "But crickets are lucky. You wouldn't want to curse us to bad luck by refusing crickets, would you? It's like challenging the power of worse, but with cute little creatures that chirp lullabies."

"Only sometimes? Shit, guess I gotta up my game!" Said playfully of course, because Duo was pretty damn happy these days, even with the few ups and downs he and Wufei had had. Generally he felt they were in a good place. Good enough to have talks like this.

"Where'd you get the idea crickets are lucky?" Duo glanced away from the tea to look over at Wufei, brow raised. "Can't be all that lucky if a spider-cat is gonna chase em down and have them for lunch!" He paused, turning back to finishing off the tea as he slowly continued. "But... hearin them outside? That and the rain, kinda like those sounds. I'm a guy used to built up living. Cities and stuff. First time I found myself somewhere with land I had no idea what a cricket or a cicada was and loved the sounds of them chirping. I just don't want that in the house!"

Wufei snorted softly, giving his head a little shake. "What do you mean where did I get the idea? Doesn't everyone know crickets are lucky?" he asked with a laugh, watching Duo finish up making their tea.

And when Duo looked back at him, the pink sparkle cloud was gone, Wufei's face torn between disbelief and horror.

"You like weather? Planetary weather?"

"Uh, no? Only thing I know is those shits think they know better than you!" Thank you, Pinocchio! That cricket just declaring himself the puppets 'conscience' had always rubbed Duo the wrong way. How did an insect believe for even a second that it knew enough about life to teach someone else? But he also had a feeling that there was a story behind what Wufei was trying to ell him, so he gestured for him to continue. Until the cloud vanished and the look of shock came over his boyfriend.

"Something wrong with that?" Duo chuckled and moved to hand Wufei his tea. "Colony-brat, Wufei. Only ever saw weather in passing. First time I got caught in rain I..." He shook his head at the memory and grabbed his own tea to take it, and himself, back through to the living room. "I love it. Anythin that separates this life from the life I had before is a good thing."

Wufei blinked, completely confused. "Crickets... know better?" He was reminded not for the first time that he and Duo had come from two very, very different backgrounds. "Crickets have always been considered lucky, where I'm from," he offered, still feeling a little confused.

He accepted his tea and shook his head. "I suppose that's one way to look at it," he agreed reluctantly, giving his head a little shake. They were going to have an interesting day the first time a severe storm rolled through. Duo might have loved them, but they left Wufei terrified.

"You've never seen Pinocchio, huh? Jiminy Cricket, just goes and decides that he's gonna be a sentient puppet's conscience!" Duo had thought it was insane the first time he'd seen that movie. Though the whole movie was kind of crazy and like some fever dream. The bit with the donkey's had been traumatic.

"So you like crickets, huh?" With his own tea in hand, Duo used his other to slip around Wufei's waist and grinned. "Lucky crickets... Heh, guess that makes you my lucky cricket? Being here with you, I've never felt more lucky."

Wufei shook his head, and snorted softly at the description. "I've never heard anything to indicate listening to a cricket is a good idea," he replied, more than a little amused.

"I like crickets very much," he agreed, and laughed when Duo called him one. "I can't even be mad about that, can I?" he tisked, and leaned in to kiss Duo lightly.
