"Ai! Forgive me, I should try and keep it simpler, eh? Well, feldspar and greenstone are two fairly common mineral deposits. Fossicking is just...well. Looking for stones and gems in riverbeds and canyons - casually, as it were! But if you're looking to make something for a friend, we might have better luck checking the markets for raw gems, first."

He nods. "I think if you want something for a friend, it would be better - we could certainly go out and look, but there's no way of knowing if we would find something, how long it might take, or if it would be suitable."
no subject
"I see... I do have a week or two before his birthday. Maybe I could take the time to look and find something and you could show me once I have? Or we can go together another day?" She did seem hopeful, she would have loved to have made Cloud something. Though if not with a gem of their making then she would make something more basic with what she had.

"Well we won't know unless we try! And I'm willing to try." Aerith, when she put her mind to something, was the hardest of workers. If this didn't work for her then so be it. But if there was a chance? She wanted to learn some new skills!
no subject
"Well, why don't we start with seeing if it might be possible? I think I have an old crystal bead that might do for a trial? Or did you want to go out hunting for stones first?"
no subject
At least, not until she was certain that those fancies would bear fruit.
"I'd be interested to test it out, if you have the time?"
no subject
"Ah, I knew one of these was cracked!" All of them seem to shine with their own light - save one.
"I kept meaning to repair it, but I've no cause to wear formal or war-braids for many years, and so never got around to it."
Yes, these are absolutely hair supplies.
no subject
"Cracked? Oh no. Can they be repaired easily?" Aerith asked as she lowered the blue gem to lean forward a little to look at the broken one. Then she looked surprised. "War-braids?"
no subject
He smiles and gestures at his hair. "Aye. You didn't think I went to war with my hair down! War-braids specifically were something we adopted from our Sindar and Silvan allies in Beleriand, but we had been braiding even before then. We used set colors and patterns to represent allegiances and status."
no subject
"I never thought about that." She admitted honestly. Mainly because she hadn't realised that Maglor went to war often enough to have a designated hairstyle for it! It was fascinating to hear about, however. "We don't have anything like that where I'm from. I think... people use uniforms to designate status and allegiances and things like that."
no subject
His smile is wry, a little sad, maybe. "Mm. We had armor and banners and heraldry, of course. But since we had to braid anyway... it was a useful designation."
Also, the enemy had a fondness for leaving only heads behind, and the braids were a way to get at least SOME news home - which is not something he wants to say to her.
