Open - Ayakashi Curse

⌛ Who: Riley and whoever comes across him
⌛ What: Riley has been cursed by a stalker ayakashi! Now he's terrified!
⌛ When: Until he's cured and after he's moved into his new home
⌛ Where: Various locations
⌛ Warnings: Riley has a lot of trauma involving being stalked and hurt and people around him being hurt. That's sure to come out here.

A. Cursed!

Coming home late wasn't unusual for Riley. Even with their new residence being in a more unsavory location that didn't stop him from his usual pathway. So it wasn't any surprise that he was out late carrying a bag of new books and sweets on his way home. It was all fine and totally like he always experienced. Well until he realized that he saw something out of the corner of his eye.

Pausing, he stared into the distance then swallowed and started to move again. There was someone behind him. He was sure of it. His heart raced faster and faster until suddenly he found himself running and rushing for his home. Anyone who saw him would see a terrified looking young man with blond hair who kept looking behind him...

B. Paranoia

He kept trying to tell himself no one was there. He did. But every time he went anywhere he was sure someone was chasing him. It was the Fae all over again and while he was in a crowded street he suddenly took off running. There were tears in his eyes as he ran full tilt into someone. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry!"

Panicked, he looked behind him but couldn't see anyone. But he knew they were there!

"I'm sorry!" He just didn't know what else to say...

C. Cure

His adopted family decided that the best way to help their little brother was with a party. That meant that they had dragged him to Pete's and, for a change, someone had shoved alcohol into his hand. At first he was too nervous to drink it, likely even needing encouragement from his loved ones. He just kept looking around like he was convinced someone in the bar was going to get him.

But after that drink suddenly he was sloshed and giggling. Someone chasing him? What was that? Falling out of his seat at one point, he blinked then laughed again as he tried to start the second glass he'd been given. (Yes, only one drink had gotten him wasted. Just Fae things.) Seeing someone come over, he'd grin and wave his drink around without a care that he was spilling it everywhere.

Getting Riley drunk? Apparently that was the cure.

Realizing this was Kinn, he was quick to grab hold of his shirt at his back and bury his face against him. He was terrified but was quick to tell himself over and over again that he was okay now. His brother would keep him safe. Nothing was going to get him as long as Kinn was there.

"I...I don't know. B-but I know they're...there. I saw shadows."

And shadows were good enough for him. Shadows meant followers. Or follower. He honestly didn't know. But he knew someone was there. Of course he was the only one who could see them but he hadn't realized that yet.

Shadows themselves were not a threat. It's what was hiding in the shadows. Kinn's eyes scanned the area, his voice quiet and his breathing slow, ready for an ambush. He wanted someone to make a slip up so he could cut into whomever scared his brother. Long moments later, he straightens even if he doesn't lower his guard or a knife.

"Okay. Turn around and keep your back against me. Head into the compound."

He won't relax until he can bolt the door and finally get some answers. Hopefully.

Nodding against his back, he shakily turned around and let one of his hands keep holding onto Kinn's clothes. Mostly to keep him close as he headed inside, trying to not think about how he could see something moving near them. Kinn wasn't reacting to it though. Was it not there?

But he knew it was there!

Trying to be brave, he got them into the compound and stayed close to his brother while everything was locked up.

Kinn didn't turn around until the door was closed and he bolted it shut. Knife still in hand, he turns to Riley to look at him, eyes scanning over his form.

"Are you hurt?" All he could think about was the Fae. Will, of course, was one of the good ones, but that also validated the theory that bad Fae could show up at any moment. Satisfied he didn't see blood, he tucked the knife back into the sheath on his calf. "What happened out there?"

"N-no."

He wasn't hurt. He just was sure that he would be hurt by that thing. Whatever that thing was. The fear was so close to being like the fear the Fae caused him that he couldn't help trembling now as he kept looking around them.

"I was coming home and then suddenly I saw a shadow. I didn't think anything of it but then it kept showing up and following me. And..." He stopped suddenly as he stared just behind Kinn then pointed.

"Th...there! It's there!"

Yet if Kinn turned...there wasn't anything there at all.

Now his gun comes out, his body turning on his heel and body completely tensed and ready to fire in his own home. It wouldn't be the first time that happened. But he didn't feel the instinct that kept him alive. There was no danger here. This whole thing reminded him of Porsche's fear of ghosts.

"I don't see any demonic shadows now, Riley." He holstered his weapon, turning around to look at the young man. "Has anyone offered you any food or drink on the way home?" He could be drugged, that much Kinn knew. He started walking towards Riley, hoping that the paranoia wouldn't start again.

Kinn couldn't see it? But it was there! He could see it! Tears formed in the corners of his eyes and he quickly shook his head. He hadn't even had dinner yet! "I haven't! I promise! I was waiting until I got back to have whatever P'Vegas probably made!"

Even the bag of candy he'd bought hadn't been touched yet since he was going to snack on that while reading later.

"Please. I'm not crazy..."

"I know." He comes forward to cup Riley's face in his hands, eyes bearing into the other's. "You're not crazy. We need to figure out if what you're seeing is some weird magic thing, or you were slipped something we don't know about." As he speaks, he keeps his tone calm and level. Soothing, to a point.

"But I'm your Phi, and you are safe with me, even if everywhere else seems scary. I'm not scary, right?"

His eyes were pulled away from the shadow he could could definitely see to look into Kinn's eyes. Scared though he was, he tried to take deep breaths to calm down, nodding slowly to show he understood then he shook his head at the question.

"No. You're not scary. You're never scary..."

"Good." He smiles, keeping everything in his demeanor easy and friendly. "So, you just see things? Keep your eyes on me, okay? Do you hear voices or smell or anything else?"

The paranoia, he's not certain he can curb completely, but hopefully diminish it some.

Eyes on Kinn. Okay. He could do that. The smile helped and he swallowed. All he had to do was keep looking at his brother.

"No...I just see a shadow."

"Would you be okay if I blindfolded you? Until we can get somewhere and light up the whole room." A smaller space without things to cast shadow would be good until he could collect everyone else and figure out what happened to Riley.

If this were someone outside of his family, he'd refuse this. But he trusted Kinn and knew that he'd take care of him. He wasn't going to just blindfold him then abandon him or something like that. He was really going to get them somewhere safe then take it off.

So he nodded. Yes, it was okay.

He moves slowly and deliberately, explaining everything he's doing as he removes his tie to wrap around Riley's eyes. Then, when that's done, he keeps the young man tucked up against his side until they can reach the 'office' of the hotel. It still needed cabinets and a desk, but it was still pretty naked. And Kinn turns on all of the lights.

"Okay, I've diminished as much as I can with the shadows and turned all the lights on. I'm going to take the blind fold off if you want and we can figure out what's happening." He pauses for a moment. "This isn't one of those weird Nippon things, is it? Like the flying pigs? Or the apples?"

"Can...can you close the blinds on the windows too?" It felt so silly to ask that but standing there blindfolded, he didn't want to have the tie taken off and then suddenly see something at the window. Already it felt like that was definitely what he was going to see. A shadowy figure right at there waiting for him. Ready to reach out and...

"Please..."

He couldn't even think to answer the other question yet.

Again, Kinn explains everything in that calm, collected voice-after he enfolds Riley in a strong embrace, reminding him that there is nothing in this room that can hurt him. Once he has everything ready, he goes to Riley, announcing his intent first to remove the blindfold.

"Feeling okay?" Kinn slips into the chair beside him.

Riley was so grateful to Kinn for telling him what he was doing as he was doing it. Including having him sit and even telling him he was removing the blindfold. Immediately, his eyes darted to the window. But because they were closed he couldn't see the shadow. Swallowing, he brought his legs up and wrapped his arms around them.

"I'm so scared. I haven't been this scared since the Fae started chasing me."

"I know, Nong. It's scary. But we've made the room as safe as possible, right? The blinds are closed, the lights are all on, and I've barred the door. At first, I thought they had shown up. I was scared for you."

He's had practice with his brother on this. Panic attacks weren't the greatest. "And even though it's scary, we're working through it. Because it's okay to be scared, but not be paralyzed. We can still do this. So no one gave you anything to eat or drink, so this probably isn't a drug like the Uki. Maybe an event like the festival that took over the western kingdom? Something strange is happening on the east side?"

Listening to Kinn, he tried to think through things. It was so hard for him to tell though but it would make sense that it would be the magics of this place. Uncertain, Riley slid his gaze over to the man. Not because he didn't trust him but because he really needed to hear it again from someone that he did trust.

"You really didn't see anyone?"

He smiles. "I don't see anyone. It's just you and me in this room. But I believe you that something is making you terrified. We just need to find a way to fix it."

The issue is what was this place playing at this time? "Do you want me to call for anyone? More heads in the game means we have more people to watch over you just in case."

Just in case this wasn't a Nippon thing and truly a Fae thing.

Okay. Kinn really hadn't seen anyone. That meant he was probably the only one seeing it so it could just be magic playing with his head. Only it felt...so real. Like there was definitely someone right outside that window just waiting for the blinds to be lifted. And when they did it would rush him and hurt him.

So Riley nodded. More heads would help and he'd trust Kinn to know who to call. "Xie got me home," he murmured at least to let his brother know that one of his boyfriends already knew.

"Do you want me to call him back?" Kinn was all for giving Riley safety and comfort. "Will? Vegas? You know any of us would drop everything and help you."

Just like they dropped everything to help the bone-setter even though Kinn was still injured and in pain.

"Anyone. Maybe more eyes will see something... Or confirm that you're right." He shivered a little and hugged his knees tighter as he stared at Kinn a moment.

"I want you to keep being right."

Kinn looked at Riley and then slid his chair over so they could touch. He wound his bad arm around Riley's shoulders to keep him close. "I will keep being right until I have to kill something." He sighed softly, taking a moment to message the necessary people so they could come and help.

"The shitty thing about this place is that there are no cute cat videos to watch." Levity is mandatory.

Touch was grounding, even if only the tiniest bit. Kinn was going to be right though. He was going to tell himself that over and over. Kinn was right and it was just the magic of this place. He was going to be okay because the magic would go away eventually.

"Xie's making sure there's really nothing out there. He said he would check everything for us after I asked." And since his boyfriend was a former assassin, he fully believed that Xie would be thorough.
