⌛ Who: Kinn and OPEN ⌛ What: What's happening around town? ⌛ When: Throughout December (more starters will be added as needed) ⌛ Where: Nippon but the focus will be mainly on the Eastern Kingdom. ⌛ Warnings:...Duh. Alerts will be in the subject lines.
Unfortunately, Nie Mingjue wouldn't really know a backhanded compliment even if it smacked him straight in the face. The man was still new to all of this, yes, but that didn't mean he did bad on his first day. He didn't do great but he didn't do bad either. "You'll learn in time." To be one with the horse, with nature, and not so much the office, as it were.
"How is your arm?" He knows that the saddle and bridle had to be a bit hard for the other man to deal with, at least a bit. As long as Kinn didn't put too much strain on it.
Kinn thought about his arm as he brushed the horse's hide with his good hand. "It hurts less these days. I suppose the bone's knit together well enough, but tension still doesn't feel great."
Once done with brushing, he proceeded to add the blankets, trying to remember the order they went on. Luckily the saddle was fairly light so it wasn't much strain on his bad arm when he slung it onto the horse's back.
"No, tension does not feel good when one breaks their bones," Mingjue agrees. It's possible that in all of his years he's actively broken a few bones of his own, even before he took over the Nie Sect at age nineteen. However, what mattered is that Kinn was recovering and seem to be recovering rather well. It would possibly take a bit before it healed completely and then Kinn would have to strengthen it.
Those eyes do, however, watch the other with the horse and how he was setting everything. If the other was forgetting an order then he had no problem reminding him in which order things went. "How long does something mend without spiritual energy?" He's used to cultivators and their spiritual energy helping the healing process.
Kinn thinks about the question as he finally straps the saddle on. "Depending on how severe the break and how old the person is, 6-8 weeks is the norm, three months for complications. Sometimes they can be so bad that you need to be in traction."
He looks back to Mingjue. "They... stick metal rods in to keep the bones in place as they heal."
"Vastly different from us cultivators then," Mingjue states watching Kinn. Though, he finds it interesting that broken bones would take someone that long to heal. When one was used to spiritual energy they don't think about things like that. However, cultivators didn't have hospitals back where he was from. They had healers when they were needed but mostly that was for those who did not cultivate or when spiritual energy couldn't heal someone.
Metal rods? "And this metal does not snap or break?"
"No. It's called titanium. Lighter than steel. Fairly indestructible." Kinn turned back to his tack, trying to make certain everything was secure. The only issue was the cinch on the saddle. He didn't have the leverage to tighten it properly while his one arm was healing. "I don't think this is tight enough," he stated, glancing back at the other.
"I have not met a metal yet that is indestructible." The idea that someone would place metal within their limbs was weird to him. Why would anyone want to put something blades are made from into their skin? The world was a vastly interesting and disturbing place sometimes.
He does, however, move to where Kinn is before checking the cinch on the horse before moving to tighten it. "You should be good now."
"Practically indestructable," Kinn reiterated as he collected the bridle. That was the tricky part-to get it situated on the horse's head while having a cast on your arm. But he managed and pet the animal's nose before leading it outside. "So what are we going for in today's lesson?"
Practically indestructible? That sounded interesting to Nie Mingjue, more than interesting even. He does, however, watch Kinn as the man gets everything situated. If the other needed help then he'd do whatever he could to help him. That? It was something that he did not mind doing.
Those eyes do, however, watch the man and horse," Right now? I just want you and the horse to get along. This horse will be your companion any time you come to train or to ride." Though, he would make sure the other knew how to take care for the horse as well.
"Train?" That meant that there was something else going on other than riding? Wasn't he learning how to ride? What other training was Mingjue implying? "So, I'm not riding today?" Why get all the tack on the horse if he's just going to, what, walk it around outside?
Kinn's question confuses the Nie sect leader. Why would the man ask something like that? Did the other never train when it came to his own world? However, that confusion doesn't show on the bigger man's face," You are riding today. You're going to be trained how to ride." To him? Learning and training was practically the same. It must've been different for the other.
Kinn lets it go, figuring it's just a matter of translation from the devices. And the first obstacle was getting the horse to walk. Kinn moved forward, reins in hand, but he stopped short because his wrecking ball didn't budge. The nearly comical 'tug of war' happened when Kinn looked back at the horse, gently pulled the reins again, then frowned when the horse didn't move. His eyes flicked back to Mingjue.
Nie Mingjue had no clue what a parking brake was. That? It goes straight over his head. Though, he does pay attention to what Kinn is doing as well as where the man was standing. There was, after all, a reason that the horse wasn't budging from where it was at.
"Don't stand in front of him. If you're going to lead him then stand at his left side, not too close, but near his head or between his head and shoulders. In that position? He will know where you're at at all times. Also, make sure that your lead is not coiled or on the ground."
Kinn decided that there were way too many rules for horse riding. He frowned slightly, fixing the lead. "Why not coiled?" That was the easiest way to keep it from getting underfoot? Adjusting his position, he looked at the horse and tried to get the horse move.
There were many rules where horses were concerned. Where animals, in general, were concerned. "If you coil the lead or wrap it around your hand, the horse can feel how tight it is. If it's too tight then the horse will panic and if the horse panics then you'll get hurt. It also keeps the lead from getting under your feet. No way to trip up yourself or the horse."
He watches Kinn for a moment before moving over and instructing him on where to stand," Do not watch the horse as you walk. Once you start walking, after you're in the correct position, he will walk with you."
He's quiet as he makes the adjustments, feeling a bit foolish in the process. This is something he doesn't know and honestly, he wishes Porsche was here. He made learning new things fun.
Finally, once walking and that horse was walking with him, Kinn's worry eased up. Maybe he would be okay learning this, after all! Now it was a matter of getting to the fenced-off area for the lesson.
