HBD Xiao
⌛ Who: Xiao & Venti
⌛ What: Xiao's Birthday~
⌛ When: April 17.
⌛ Where: Kyoto/Around.
⌛ Warnings: Will update as needed!
[ Venti sought out Xiao early that day. He didn't make a lot of plans, but he did know he wanted to spend the day with someone very special that day. Venti enjoyed holidays - everything from festivals to individual birthdays. And he wanted to make sure Xiao didn't resist the idea of letting himself have a good one. He's never really been much for large groups and parties. So, Venti decided he'd do his best to at least try and respect some of those things and keep his plans as one-on-one as possible.
For the day - he had some money, his lute, and he dressed in fairly traditional clothes. His kimono itself is green, but there's a white and yellow small floral pattern on it, as well. It's not super showy, but he likes the colors - of course.
He assumed he was somewhere around the Monastery that they were having to stay, so when he finally spotted him. He doesn't make any attempts to hide his footsteps, but if Xiao doesn't turn to find him, he'll get on his toes and peek over the other's shoulder, leaning into him. ]
Happy Birthday.

Happy Birthday.

Mostly since as a yaksha he didn't technically have a birthday but the date was one that had significance to him for reasons he'd likely never disclose to anyone. Once he'd chosen it, it was one he didn't think much about, since it was a 'mortal' thing to celebrate those things.
It was no different than any other day for him, but he was dressed in a fairly nice outfit for what it was worth. The kimono alone was a dark color but had wispy, teal and purple cloud patterns emblazoned along it. He was getting ready to leave the monastery as it was, having no desire to stick around for the day and it was in this vein that he didn't really hear footsteps behind him until a weight leant into him and his eyes went wide for a moment. ]
You--!
[ He's going to selectively ignore what looks like pink tinged qingxin flowers popping up around him for a moment out of how he felt with Venti saying that to him, instead opting to sigh and close his eyes. ]
...Thanks. [ A beat. Then another. ] There's... no need to make a big deal out of it, though. It's just another day, isn't it?

[ He settles down on his feet, still standing close. He takes two hands and grabs one of Xiao's. It's not that birthdays were important and necessary to celebrate to him, after awhile when you get as old as they are - you just sometimes forget how old you are. He just sees this as just a birthday, though.
It's a new chance to spend time with someone he cares about. A way to enjoy each other. This unfamiliar place still has so much to see, and it'd be nice to do it with him. ]
They're a celebration of you.
[ His fingers tighten on the other's hand. ]
It's how I show you that you're important to me!
[ A smile. ]
I won't go overboard.

Part of him didn't get why people celebrated getting older, for existing another year. ]
Y-You've done plenty to show that already...
[ Xiao's voice was quieter this time, trying to ignore the warmth in his cheeks right now. He almost wanted to say no, but just seeing how earnest Venti was? ]
If you truly do not intend to go overboard then I suppose I could accept it and go along with it for today.

[ He has an easy, soft smile when he says it. He does seem to mean it, at least. There's none of the typical, ornery nature sitting within his words. It's sincere. He wants Xiao to have a good birthday and enjoy himself. He cares for him in ways he can't exactly explain. ]
But today, I'll keep it...easy going. Since I don't want you to run away. By the way, you look perfect, so we can go now.
[ He only drops his grip on Xiao's hand to step beside him and take it in his. Yep, buddy, you're going to get your hand held on this adventure. ]
Besides, you should feel special. I don't usually spoil others like this.
[ He likes being spoiled. ]

I'm just... am I really worth such effort?
[ The words all slip out before he can stop himself and he looked down, not expecting the careful words and the compliment that had followed. It had the color darkening on his cheeks along with the distinct way kizuna had his tattoo on his arm glowing vividly under the sleeve itself. ]
I won't run away. Not from this...
[ So warm. It matched the sort of weird, happy warmth in his chest right now. Maybe that's what had him giving Venti's hand a soft, light squeeze and a gentleness within normally cold amber hues. Possibly even smiling a little as well, though he doesn't realize he's doing it. ]
Of course. I will... keep that in mind and do my best to enjoy this so your efforts are not wasted.

[ He does notice the way the other lights up. He's gotten good at making this happen. Even when he's not really trying that hard. He kind of likes to know he can cause this sometimes. He likes the blush. He likes the glow. And not just because he's amused and delighted, but because he thinks that Xiao might be happy, too. Even if he's not necessarily expressing that to him directly. ]
I think you're worth it.
[ He hums playfully. ]
And I think you like that I think you're worth it. Besides, I already decided, and you know I wouldn't do this if I didn't want to or think it was worthwhile.
[ He's holding Xiao's hand as he starts walking. ]
I found this little tea shop in the market that I think you'll like.
no subject
I won't. You have my word.
[ Did he have to really keep saying such embarrassing, honest things? It made him definitively happy, hearing Venti tell him things like that though. Someone who really looked at him, knew enough about him to broach closer and do things like this with him. ]
That is true. I can't argue with that.
[ There's absolutely no complaints as he walked along with him now, tied by that warmth of their connected hands and he didn't want to let go. ]
Oh? I have not done much exploring of the area so I will take your word on it.
no subject
But celebrating someone's existence was new. ]
I mean, you don't have any choice but to take my word for it, though.
[ A small hum. ]
I'll make it up to you after, though. We'll go somewhere quiet with just us.
[ Because he thinks Xiao would like that more than anything else. ]
no subject
I suppose you have a point.
[ His tone is softer and less edged, and maybe for a second Xiao could pretend as if he wasn't just taking a moment to admire the other. Venti had those eyes that could just look at him and see noone else right now, features soft and rounded in comparison to him with his sharper edges. ]
Alright. That sounds... quite nice.

It's okay to relax and just just enjoy our time together, Xiao.
[ He wants the other to enjoy himself. He wants to be a part of the other's enjoyment. He cares for Xiao - differently from how he cares for his people back home. He watches Xiao differently, too. His desire to be near Xiao comes from a long-time formed friendship that's difficult for Venti to describe because all he's ever been used to is being a god to a nation and then hiding under their noses. ]
Xiao.
[ He pauses. Is he about to tease? No? ]
Do you want a kiss? A birthday kiss?
no subject
Right. I will do my best to.
[ He's completely honest about it when he says that, too. There's no wrought tension in his shoulders or the worry of a burden being carried on his back here; it's a strangely light sensation honestly. Not a bad one, by any means.
Upon hearing his name though? He looked over and blinked a couple times to try and register what he'd just heard. Instantly his brows narrowed, cheeks a nice shade of pink before he cleared his throat and moved as to stand in front of Venti. ]
Yes. If you're... serious about it, that is.
[ This was Xiao's way of taking charge, and hoping Venti didn't find it too abrasive. ]
no subject
Is he serious?
That's a valid question from Xiao. He's known Venti long enough to know that he tends to mess around and do the things he's wanted. He knows better than a lot of people that's what he does, too.
But, he is serious? ]
I'm not joking.
[ Is that the same thing as being serious? Well, for him it really is. So he reaches up both of his hands and grabs Xiao's cheeks, shifting to press a kiss to the other's lips. It starts chaste because he realizes this is the first time he's really kissed someone for a very long time - and definitely the first person here. It feels like it's been forever. ]
