It was quick reflexes that caused Pete to save the bowl and set it aside. Then he was wrapping his arms around Will to hug him back then just hold him. He'd meant every word that he'd said too. After all he'd seen what Riley and then Will had done for all of them. They'd all become better by having them there in every possible way. He thanked Buddha every day that they got to know these them. Both of them.

He knew. He knew and it felt good to be supported when he needed it. He wasn't really sure what to do with himself and it helped to have others to give him some direction when he felt so lost. How would he even get through without this family to help him?

He held onto Pete tightly for a solid minute before he finally let go and sagged back into his chair.

"You really are my best friend, Pete. Thank you for everything."

"Thank me by continuing to listen to me when I come and take care of you, okay? That'll be enough for me." And enough for their sleeping boy here in the bed. He was sure of that. "You let me worry about you so you can focus on him."

Will's head drooped in a slow nod. "Okay." That was reasonable enough. He could worry about repaying Pete's kindness at a later date. Because he absolutely would!

Pete gently rubbed Will's head then got to his feet and grabbed the bowl. It still had food in it but at least his friend had eaten something. A few bites was better than nothing.

"I'm going to make sure everyone else is eating too. I'll be back in a bit."
