"I see." It was hard for him to imagine it, but that's because coffee was just so common where he comes from.

"Oh, yeah. It's pretty common all over the world. So is tea. There's this weird dichotomy that you can only like one or the other... It's bizarre."

[dragonrising]

He lifted a brow but looked entirely amused by this prospect. You could only like tea or coffee? But not both? How odd. He'd think that they'd both have their own appeals to them since they were apparently very different drinks.

"I'll have to let you know how I feel about it once I try it."

Right? It's weird, like so many man-made dichotomies. Coffee or tea, beach or mountains, summer or winter, et cetera, et cetera, ad nauseum.

"I'm curious what you'll think. And I won't be offended if you don't care for it."

[dragonrising]

That brought out a soft laugh from the dragon. He bowed his head a bit.

"Thank you for that. I'd hate to cause offense by not liking something that you're introducing me to."

Vegas chuckled. "It's not like I made it."

[dragonrising]

Well now he had to really laugh. It felt so good to be able to do that these days. He was grateful for it every time it happened.

"That's true. You don't have to claim pride over something you didn't make."

"That's right," he agreed with a nod. "If you like it, great. I get to say I introduced you to it. If you don't, nothing's lost."

[dragonrising]

"I would like saying you introduced it to me as well. If you don't mind me saying a new friend introduced me to it, of course." He didn't want to presume, after all. But he did like the man already.

Vegas grinned. It actually seemed pretty easy to make friends when he wasn't trying to get something from others.

"I don't mind that in the least. It's probably one of the nicer things people have called me."

[dragonrising]

That actually made the dragon laugh softly as he bowed his head.

"I know what that's like actually. I wouldn't say I have the more favorable reputation these days back in my world."

"I guess that's something we have in common, then." Vegas never had a great reputation to begin with, but after the coup? Probably even less great.

[dragonrising]

"Mm. When you try to eliminate an entire people because you're blinded by your own rage and desire for power and vengeance..." He sighed a little and shook his head. Runyu knew what he'd done and he wasn't someone who felt the need to hide it.

"Many years later and I'm still the most hated man in all the realms. But, that was my own doing and I accept that I must live with that now."

Well, the guy's a heavenly dragon so it makes sense that his crimes would be worse than those of a mere mortal.

"I'm not sure how much I earned my reputation rather than grew into it. Family rivalry and all that. I was always looked down and mistrusted because of the part of the family I was born into. I think, at some point, I just decided to embrace it since people thought the worst of me already."

[dragonrising]

"You know, I'm realizing you and I might be more alike than I realized. That was very much how I grew up. Born first but my mother was not the Empress. My brother was though and he was greatly favored by all as a result. It eventually led to a vicious rivalry between us later in life."

Rivalry and a lot of bloodshed. Far too much of it really. Blood, paint, and betrayal. He'd seen more than his fair share of it in his time.

"That sucks." Understatement. Vegas had a lot of opinions on family rivalries and how they were often the result of the previous generation imposing their hopes and fears on their children, forcing them into these adversarial roles to benefit the existing structures that give them (the elders) power.

"In my case, I blame our fathers for starting it."

[dragonrising]

"I can blame my father for it. He ended up dying for his actions though."

Runyu had to pause because their orders were there. He nodded his thanks for them and looked at the drinks curiously. His own was so dark. The dragon wasn't sure he'd ever consumed anything this dark before. It would be an interesting experience.

Vegas gave a polite nod to the server before turning his focus back to Runyu. He gestured to the containers that were brought with their drinks containing milk and sugar. Just the basics.

"If it's too bitter, you can add some sugar to help with that." Vegas' cup was significantly smaller than Runyu's. He quickly picked up the little spoon that was served with his cup and scraped the crema layer off the top, plopping it on the saucer, then stirred the little drink.
