That earned Will another kiss and then he poked his nose. "Then it's time to get you a shower and your hair brushed. And some clothes. My soon to be husband needs to feel like himself again."
Riley gave him a warm smile and one more kiss. "Sound good?"
This week had been the worst. Turning a year older was status quo. It happened like any other day and once his father had declared that he was the heir, there were no longer any relaxing times or parties. But that wasn't what worried him. He had his own vigil and then decided the best way to get his family through this by supporting them. He made certain people had gotten enough to eat, drank something, kept warm.
He spent a few hours with just Porsche on his birthday, needing something for himself, even if it was just snuggling up against his now fiance and drinking. Even drinking was minimal as he sough solace in Porsche's arms. But now, Riley was awake and he could finally breathe.
Kinn was currently breathing, making some rice and adding veggies to it in the process in the kitchen.
He nuzzled against Riley, bumping their noses and then pressing his forehead against the other Fae's. "Only if you come with me," he stated quietly. "My soon-to-be husband hasn't had a shower in a couple of days, either."
There was Kinn. Without even thinking about it, he ran all the way into the kitchen and threw his arms around his brother from behind. Pressing himself against his back, he did his best to not get in the way of the cooking but he also just wanted to be as close as possible to him at the same time.
"I'm sorry for worrying you all," he murmured softly against his shirt. Riley knew that it hadn't been his fault but he still needed to say something. And this was the only thing he could think of to say first.
Well, more likely half tossed it away where it teetered over the counter edge and then fell. And while to some it may have seemed he had been startled (which he had been) the act was more to protect Riley than indicate that Kinn had been scared. His normal reflex would have been to mule kick his 'attacker' and then stab them with the knife.
Thus, throwing the knife away from him was the better option.
"Nong," Kinn turned around in the Fae's arms and clung to him just as hard. Any other words he might have wanted to say-how was he feeling, what happened, had he been poisoned, Kinn was sorry he couldn't prevent it or fix it--hung behind the huge lump in his throat.
Looking up as Kinn turned around, he felt those strong arms wrap around him. Smiling a little, he nuzzled his cheek against his shoulder and closed his eyes for not. To just let them have this moment together like this. He'd already apologized so he didn't need to again. Right now he just needed to let Kinn have this. Honestly Riley needed it just as much.
After a bit, he finally spoke again. "I'm okay. I'm awake now. And I'm stronger so I can protect all of you..."
Kinn didn't answer right away. He had no way to speak at the moment and it was hard to compose himself. But he half grunted in acknowledgment and after another minute, pulled back just enough to look at Riley. "Yeah? Is that what happened? A power charge?"
Porsche slipped the full magazine into place then gave the glock a final check over. Thank god for whatever magic or powers that be or whatever it was called but attending the New Year's Eve party with Kinn had resulted in his preferred firearm being gifted to him. It was a damned sight better than the period pieces that'd been found before. Not that he would have complained if that had been all that was available.
All that was missing was a shoulder holster but that would be an easy thing to fix. There had to be leatherworkers around that could work something up for him. Till then, the back of the pants it was.
"Ready," he answered with his usual grin. "We'll be back in no time."
The whole place felt like a weight had been lifted. It was so noticeable that even Porsche was able to clue into it. He knew that the worst of whatever had happened had passed but he'd had yet to really see anyone.
First he would find Kinn and then he'd go looking for everyone else. Crossing the courtyard, and being hit with clear, clean air changed the plans a bit.
First a moment to sit and breathe then he'd do the rest of it.
That made him giggle a little. He still wasn't sure how many days had actually passed but that was okay. It had been more than enough and that meant that it was time for him to have that much needed shower too. "I was going to come with you. You need quality time with me obviously."
"Yeah. It was like...I was here but my mind was back in my world. I lived three whole years like that and I learned a lot. And got a lot stronger too." He offered him a smile, trying to be reassuring. "If I'd known it would happen I would have warned you all..."
"I do," he agreed with a nod. But he had to wait for Riley to get up before he could move. He wasn't sure he could carry his boyfriend to the bathroom right now. And he's thinking about some of the things Riley's said... but he knew better than to ask about his own future.
Once Riley climbed out of his lap, Will took his hands as he got to his feet to lead them to the bathroom. After three days without any restful sleep, he's feeling the exhaustion now. But he can't rest yet. Shower first, then he can finally sleep. Well, maybe after he told everyone Riley's okay...
He saw Porsche and he didn't even think about it. Everything in him just kicked into gear and he ran right to his big brother. Right across the way to throw his arms around him. To hug as much as cling to him as he gave him a squeeze.
"We honestly probably don't even need to be armed but I prefer safe than sorry."
Leading the way out, Pete turned them down the path toward the Port. They had to go pick up the shipment they were bringing to the spot first but that wouldn't take long. He'd been told place was empty save for a couple crates. Between the two of them? They'd handle that easily.
"Nice to see you with your gun again, by the way."
Getting up, the blankets fell to reveal that he'd gone to bed naked as usual. And he sure was still very naked. Riley didn't mind though and just took Will's hand to walk with him to the bathroom so he could start the water, testing it to make sure it was going to run nice and hot.
"You can leave some of that to me now. It doesn't have to be all on you. We're partners, remember?"
Riley smiled at him then reached to help him start stripping down, giving him kisses the whole time. "Tell me what needs to be done okay? You need to sleep so I can do some of that to help out."
He's not surprised by Riley's nudity. It's a normal thing for him. Riley always sleeps naked, after all. And since he'd been safely under the covers, there was no need to struggle to dress him while he was... sleeping.
"We have to let everyone know you're alright now. Kim and Wanyin were really worried. Everyone was, really. And then we have to tell them we're getting married and get all that together... Vegas has been in the kitchen cooking for days, so we'll probably have enough food to last a month."
He's rambling. Just letting the thoughts that came to mind spill out unbidden. But he didn't put up any fight when Riley peeled his clothes off. He wasn't particularly helpful other than lifting his arms about his head.
Finally, he flopped down on the toilet to rest for a moment and rubbed his knuckles to his bleary eyes.
"Okay. I'll do all that." That way Will could get the sleep that he needed. "After you're asleep so I can be with you until then. And I'll be back before you wake up."
Watching him go to sit down, he smiled at him fondly and went to go over to run his fingers through that long hair to push it back from Will's face. Humming, he analyzed him a bit. Like he was seeing if that was actually true.
"Hmmmm... Nope. You just need your gardener to give you a good watering and a proper bed to rest in. Luckily your gardener is here so let's get you that water first so my really beautiful flower will feel better, okay?"
And maybe a little sunshine after his rest. He hasn't been out of their room in days. A weary but genuine smile settled on his lips and he peered back at Riley. Oh, how he loved this Fae. Everything about him: his charm, his kindness, that damn cute face. But mostly it was his huge heart. Will never wanted anything to make Riley close that off.
He leaned forward and slipped his arms around Riley in a loose hug. He just wanted to be close to him for a moment before they got in the shower. He was tired and the relief of seeing Riley awake and well only made him sleepier.
Kinn thought that the explanation was no less frightening than realizing you were sucked into another world-- especially one with magic. In attempt to make some levity, Kinn sighed, pulling Riley back to his chest. "At least you didn't get smacked in the face by a flying pig."
That was a promise. He waited until Will was ready, giving him time to lean against him and hug him before getting him into the shower. After getting them both cleaned off and Will's hair combed out, he brought him back to their bed and tucked them in. Smiling at him, he stroked his cheek the whole time until the other was sound asleep.
Only then did he get up to get dressed and go find everyone to let them know he was awake and about the wedding.
That made him burst out in a laugh as he nuzzled against Kinn's shoulder. It was a great sentence to lighten the mood a bit and he loved him so much for it. "No, that one seems to still be your special thing, P'Kinn."
Or maybe their special thing really since that was how they met and started this journey into becoming family.
Vegas liked control. When he didn't have that? He exerted it where he could. And in the hotel? That happened to be the kitchen. He closed Pete's due to the family emergency and holed himself up in the kitchen. And cooked, and cooked, and cooked.
Every dish he and Riley ever talked about came to mind and Vegas made it his life's work to make each and every one of them. Mixed scents of foods savory and sweet wafted from the kitchen in strange melody of various Asian cuisines. He made soups to feed everyone, rice dishes, congees, and especially for Riley he made the Fae's mom's kimchi stew. He also made the banana roti he'd told Riley about before. A lot of it, just as he promised.
Needless to say, there was a veritable banquet in the kitchen. Pete had been running food to everyone, so Vegas had been trying to make a variety to keep things from getting boring. He doubted anyone would really care with their family member unwell if they ate the same thing for a few days. And thankfully, it was only a few days.
When Vegas saw Riley poke his head in the kitchen, he sagged with relief, dropped whatever utensil was in his hand, and crossed the room to pull him into a tight, one-armed hug.
"Nong! How are you feeling? Hungry? I have kimchi stew for you."
That's exactly what Kinn had been looking for: a way to break that nasty tension bubble. And now that it was done, he could relax. He could relax a little bit everywhere, actually. This was worse then the last time Porsche had gotten hurt and Kinn wasn't keen on doing that again.
He rested his chin on top of Riley's head. "When you say stronger, what do you mean by that?"
"My magic is stronger now and I can use some elements I couldn't before. I found out who my biological mother is and apparently the longer I live the weaker she gets while I get stronger. She's the Unseelie Queen and it's something that happens with Fae Royalty."
It was still really new for him too but at least he could understand where his ties to water and ice came from. Why he was immune to the cold but heat didn't bother him. Being her son explained all of that and he wasn't sure how he felt about that even now.
"I actually fought her because she hurt Will trying to get to me."
So Vegas was in the kitchen. He smiled as he came in and immediately ran over to meet the hug, nuzzling into his shoulder as he did. Looking up, Riley directed that smile right up at his big brother, looking as bright and awake as ever despite all the sleep he'd gotten.
"I'm okay now. I'd..." His eyes widened and his mouth dropped open as he looked past Vegas to the kitchen proper and sniffed the air.
