Open Catch-All (TDM Prompts)

I. Starry Night - Pond

Times like this were peaceful for him. When he could stand at the edge of a pond like this and see the stars in the sky as well as the reflection of the water. It reminded him so much of quieter times before everything had changed in his life. When he was just the Night Immortal with his Dream Beast at his side. Before all the pain and suffering...so much caused by his own hand.

Embracing his element, he stepped forth onto the water, walking across the surface with only soft ripples following. Soon the dragon was several feet away from the shore and just looking up at the sky above him. He smiled softly as he did, a breeze softly stirring his hair.

Hearing someone behind him, he looked over his shoulder to see who had joined him.

II. Starry Night - Daytime Stalls

Curious about the stalls that appeared for the meteor shower, Runyu visited them during the day. The food looked good but he wasn't hungry and ignored it for the most part. The trinkets though? These had his attention. Little toys and hair pins and other accessories. He couldn't help but to smile as he looked them over, sometimes picking them up to inspect them before setting them aside.

It was like he was looking for just the right thing. Which was honestly true. He was looking for little gifts for his loved ones. Something special to give to them. They never asked for that but it still felt like something he wanted to do all the same.

Lifting up a pin, he hummed softly then looked at the person next to him. "What do you think?"

III. Starry Night - Meteor Shower

Once all the lights were out, he moved to where he could have a good view of the sky. The shower was stunning, much like the ones he would provide the Mortal Realm in the past. It brought a smile to his lips to watch it happen. "...beautiful."

Near him he heard whispers of which on the rainbow tails. For a second he considered it then shook is head as he looked to the sky again. There was nothing he wanted to wish for. Nothing that he felt he could deserve to wish for. It was better that all that remained in his own world. Unless he wanted to wish for Xufeng's happiness which he already knew his brother would have in the end with Jinmi and those beautiful children.

So, he was just content to watch instead. "I wonder who controls the night sky here..."

"I fought to save my world once. I'm more than willing to do it again." Of that, she's determined. It may not be perfect, but she can't just let Solas essentially kill everyone who currently exists.

"You are very courageous. I admire you for that. For what it is worth, and having only heard your side of things, I support your efforts." He would like to offer help even. However, he knew that their worlds were not the same at all. There was likely nothing more that he could do than what he had already. An offer of support for her efforts.

"Forgive me," she offered an apologetic smile. "I didn't mean to turn the conversation so dark."

He offered her a smile in return and shook his head. "You have nothing to apologize for. You were honest in your answers and I appreciate that. Thank you."

"There is no reason to hide anything here. The secrets and machinations of my world mean little in this place." She softens a little, looking from her cup to the dragon. "It's somewhat of a relief to be in a place where the fate of the world does no rest on my shoulders."

"I admit that I've felt similarly. I am the Emperor of the Heavenly Realm where I come from." And an infamously hated man. But he left that part out. They weren't discussing his crimes at this time.

"Here I am just a man. It's been nice."

Atheva has not yet reached the requisite friendship level to unlock Runyu's tragic backstory. She nods in understanding, though. That relief from the burden of duty was something they have in common.

"Do you ever wonder how things are going without you? I do, sometimes."

"My brother is here so I know that I have no fear of time. He is from hundreds of years before my time. With the flow so different, with me never remembering him disappearing at that time, I know that things will remain as I've left them."

And it was a belief he needed at that time anyway. To know that he could leave for awhile. To actually experience happiness for a time before he had to be pulled back into the darkness of loneliness.

"Perhaps time moves differently here and if we leave, we are returned to the exact moment we left." That would be nice. It means no one would have a chance to miss or worry or mourn for those who had stumbled upon Nippon.

"That is what I have been assuming. If nothing else it's a comforting thought I like to cling to." Because otherwise he was failing the Heavenly Realm in a whole new way. One he couldn't even control this time.

"It is a comfort," she agrees. "It lets me sleep easier knowing my loved ones are, for the time being, safe." And that her duties aren't being shirked. "I wasn't sure anyone else felt that way."

"I think that there are others besides us. But we don't end up talking about things like that often. It's nice actually. To have someone who understands the weight of leadership and what it can mean to leave that behind though."

Runyu gave a soft laugh and lifted his cup to her before finishing what was in it. It really was good tea. He'd have to get this one again. "I think you are good for your people if you care so much to think of them from so far away."

Though the same could be applied to him he still couldn't say the same after all he'd done. But he could try for them at least.

"I hope that I am. I can only offer my best and hope it's enough," she mused. "I am fortunate that my closest advisors are all leaders, as well, and if they are without me, they should be able to continue on."

"As someone who rules alone, I can tell you that you are blessed to have others at your side. It helps to lighten the load you must carry." And he always would be alone too. But this was something that he'd accepted long ago. Embraced even.

She nodded. Yes, she's aware of her good fortune. With so many valuable allies with varying strengths and skills, it makes her a better, more well-rounded leader. Her expression softened and she peered at him with sympathy. "It must be difficult to rule alone."

"It is perhaps more difficult for one who isn't already used to being alone. I am." Very used to it. It had been so much a part of his life that he knew it was essentially who he was now. At least in his world. Here he had those who would never allow for that and he appreciated the fact.

A slight, worried sort of frown bows her lips. "Are there none who wish to aid you for the betterment of all?"

He gave a soft smile and kept his gaze downward as he shook his head. "Not anymore."

There's a history in that statement, one she won't pry into. She reached across the table and laid a hand on his. "For what it's worth, I would help you if it were in my power to do so."

He looked up at her with surprise. If she knew his history he felt she wouldn't be saying that but... "Thank you. That means a great deal."

Perhaps, but who can say? Maybe she would deem him worthy of a second chance. After all, whatever burden he carries, he seems to do with equal parts guilt and grace.

"You're most welcome."

Runyu gave her a warm look then bowed his head to accept the words. She was a kind person. One with a good heard. She likely made for a very good leader to her people, of that he was certain.

"I hope to learn a great deal from you about leadership that I can hopefully take to my rule when I return."

"I look heavily to others for guidance. I have no skill in military leadership or dealing with the religion that dominates humanity. My only advice would be to strive to do the most good for the most people," he pauses, thoughtful. "Not in the 'greater good' kind of way, but a more practical, meaningful way that makes people's lives easier."

"I certainly try to these days. My father had a rather corrupt rule before I took the throne. It's been a lot of cleaning up messes as well as ruling." His own messes too but that was another matter. Entirely. "It's a delicate balance to deal with the past and the future at the same time."

She nods in understanding. At least any corruption Atheva had to deal with at home was not widespread. She could see how it would be a very delicate balancing game, making it hard to find trusted advisors rather than those with an agenda of their own. Plus whatever was in his past that weighed so heavily might contribute, as well.

"I hope, when the time comes for you to return, that you're able to find the second chance you found here."
