Good catch. Of course, the arrow is pulled from the hare and the animal is grabbed with dark energy. It amuses Mingye that he can actively use his dark energy even as a bird. Something that he enjoys. It's every bit a part of him like everything else. Where are we going with it?

"Shall we head home?" He'll have to clean and cook the hare for them if they want to have it tonight. But there was still time for more of this play-training if Mingye was inclined to continue.

Home sounds good. It also meant that he could shift back, even if he knows it'll be a bit painful, and help Ouyang where help was needed. He did, however, have fun out with his lover. Something that he's sure they would do again. Something that he would enjoy doing again.

Ouyang held out his arm for Mingye to rest on, then reached up to pluck the hare from the swirl of dark energy carrying it. It's hardly an effort to carry, so why should he make Mingye do all the work?

"Next time, you can find the prey."

The raven swoops down and lands on Ouyang's arm. Of course, he lets the other take the rabbit, not that he minded carrying it around. No matter how weird it would look to see a hare floating around in dark energy.

Maybe it'll even be something bigger.

A grin pulls at his lips. He likes Mingye's confidence and has no reason to doubt his abilities. "A stag, perhaps," Ouyang suggests. Between the two of them, they could definitely take a stag down.

I don't see why we couldn't find a stag to take down It might take his talons and a few of Ouyang's arrows, but they could definitely do something like that. Something that was bigger than a hare anyway.

"We'll have to invite our hosts to eat it with us." Surely it would be too much food for just the three of them, but with Zhou Zishu, his partner, and their daughter... Well, it would probably be a nice little feast.

I'm sure they would like that.

Well, he's not overly sure that they would, but he's kind of sure that they would. If they managed to snag a stag then he's sure that they'd be able to feed everyone in the Four Seasons with it. Even possibly save some for later, depending on what it was they were using it for.

Ouyang is sure it wouldn't go to waste. Between the three of them and their hosts, it would indeed be a grand meal. No doubt they could cure the hide and make use of the bone somehow, too.

"Once we have horses, I'll show you a real hunt."

They could make a few different things with the hide and bone. Jewelry even. Or clothes. Something that would work well for the all of them. There was no telling what could or couldn't be done. Things were, as it was, a bit endless. There was nothing that they couldn't do.

Is that what you'll show me?

Yes, he's teasing and it can probably be evidenced by the preening of the raven on his arm.

Ouyang shot a quick smirk at his bird.

"Would you rather learn how to groom a horse?"

I will leave the horses to you.

Besides, it was quite possible that the horses might end up liking Ouyang better anyway. They would see when they hit that road.

Surprisingly, Ouyang has a way with animals. Perhaps because of the admiration he has for them. Especially work animals. Horses, hunting dogs and birds.

"Does your dark energy frighten them?"

Not that I'm aware of. Horses were more something that Linyuan dealt with more than I did.

That did not, however, mean he wasn't sure if animals were frightened of his dark energy or not. As far as he knows? There wasn't an animal out there who was actually afraid of him and the energy that he used.

Ah, that's right. His sweet, 'helpless' nobles.

There were perks to status, some even Ouyang experienced as he climbed the ranks (through equal parts his own efforts and Esen's favoritism). Before serving in the Prince of Henan's army, he was a slave. When he became General of the Prince's forces, Esen gifts him a living for the times when they weren't traveling on campaign; a compound complete with a contingent of slaves to see to his needs. Most of which he dismissed as they had once served together as equals. Thus, he was familiar with such mundane tasks as cleaning house and preparing food.

"Forgive my forgetfulness."

Mingye would probably laugh if he knew that Ouyang considered him 'helpless'. He was not, in all honesty, helpless. He prefered to use his dark energy and that's what he grew up with. Being the heir of the Darknight Court there were servants and elders that did everything for him, as well as the others.

What did you forget?

It's a bit teasing, but he's partially serious too.

"It was not part of your duty to tend to animals," he mused without judgment. "The Mongols provided us with anywhere from two to eight horses so we would not over-work them. Of course, we also had to care for them."

[personal profile] reliesondirtytricks 2022-07-13 09:03 am (UTC)(link)
No, it was not part of my duty to tend to the animals, or to anyone else. Actually, his only job was to find the celestial fruit and bring it home. Or to outdo Jun Linyuan. Anything that would bring pride to the Darknight Court.

"What do you nobles do with all your free time?" There's no slight intended in the question. He's simply curious how people with status like Mingye's spend their free time.

Following father's orders and fighting with Jun Linyuan every chance that I got.

It used to be, for him, that anything Jun Linyuan had he wanted. The man had found Feng Wu and he'd ended up wanting her too. Jun Linyuan had been sent after the celestial fruit and so had he. They had been child adversaries.

Let's get inside so I can shift. Easier for me to talk to you.

It meant that Ouyang would get more than clips of his thoughts.

He nodded in agreement. They weren't far and once they approached their home, Ouyang opened the door to let his winged lover inside. He'd give Mingye a chance to change forms and re-dress before heading to the kitchen to prepare the hare for their supper.

"This Jun Linyuan you speak of. Friend or foe?"
