Music Box: Thoughts Edition

See, here's the thing about Maglor. His thoughts are noisy. His family could have mentioned how 99% of the time he was composing in his youth - this has not, in fact, gotten any better as he's gotten older - it's just that the 1% not dedicated to music got LOUD.

So it's a toss up if the music box tunes in to his thoughts if one is going to get a sudden jangle of whatever composition he's working on at the moment (it might sound like a cacophony of noise, or something very close to the most perfect symphony you've ever heard, depending) or just random rambling streams of thoughts.

He's surprisingly paternal, if you listen to his thoughts. There's a lot of worrying over... pretty much everyone.

Music Box: Memories Edition

The memories that the box picks vary - you might run into him staring fondly at the image of a large, noisy family doing all sorts of things from playing to crafting to fighting to just existing, to brilliant great light sources that happen to look a bit like trees, to beautiful cities that look like paintings, to much darker memories - lonely shores, fire and war, long tiring nights guarding those behind him, all the way to softly sad memories - dark haired twins in a cold castle.

He'll talk about any of them, if asked, but probably won't notice any watchers to discuss them without being prompted.

Soul Artifact

".............we don't have to do this, if you don't want to."

He's very not sure if he WANTS to know what his soul artifact is. But this is what they've been asked to do so...

(It's a harp. Just a harp. His shoulders will drop in relief when it is revealed - clearly, he was expecting something else. But when the strings are touched... Something like grief will cross his face. )

Trial of Promise

"You cannot leave until you..." He reads out slowly, in the dim cave his glow is striking, especially since there's no other source of light barring the words on the wall.

"...Ah." He sighs, unhappily.

Trial of Devotion

He eyes the mountain and wonders aloud, "Do you think they mind if we cheat? I wonder if I can put them to sleep?"

Alternatively, he could just fight his way up. The odds are better than many times in his past.

"What do you think?"

Trial of Love

He waits only until the rules are announced before stating, very calmly; "That's fine. I'll just break mine."

What is such pain after all, compared to all the pain he has already had in his life?

He'll immediately move to smash the harp on any available surface unless stopped.

"He would say that it allowed him to use up his energy." Maglor points out, laughing softly.

"I found a teashop the other day with cakes that I am almost entirely certain is safe!"

"I suppose it did. I'd have been happier though if he'd found a different outlet for all that pent up energy." He makes a face at the memory of Tyelko's penchant of starting fights.

"Then that's where we'll go. I am starting to get a little hungry actually and it would probably be good for you to eat something as well."

"Mother named him VERY well." Maglor laughs a little louder at the face.

"I'm not that hungry?" He pouts but starts leading the way obediently. "Honestly, you and Elrond both... I'm eating better, I promise..."

"It was a very apt name, wasn't it?" It brings a chuckle out of him.

"Wether you feel it now or not, you spent a lot of energy today and it would be better if you got some food in you to regain it." He punctuate the statement with a stern look. "You haven't been eating well? I did think you looked a bit thin..."

[bythewaves]

"She named all of us well."

He wrinkles his nose at his brother's fussing.

"I'm fine! Don't fuss so. It's only that I..." he falters a little, looking away. "It was... just hard. Some days. That's all. I'm not that good a fisherman. So I'm still not ... used to eating regularly."

[holdshisown]

"She was always good at seeing the truth of others."

He'll just keep leveling the stern look at his brother.

"Kano. Please don't lie to me" He turns his brothers head gently, so he can look him in the eyes. "I know how hard it can be... looking out for yourself, I mean. Eating especially can be hard. I'd rather know about it so I can help you, even if all I can do is be supportive."

[bythewaves]

"That is true."

He squirms a little but allows the inspection.

"I'm getting better, I promise. It's just... hard to remember, sometimes."

"I sometimes wonder what she truly meant by mine. She never seemed the type to simply name someone for their looks alone."

The obvious discomfort makes him relent a bit.

"I understand. I've... not been the best at remembering either. But I can't help you if I don't know what you're struggling with."

[bythewaves]

"I think she named you for love." Maglor says shyly. "Because you were the very best that she ever had a hand in making."

"I'll be alright. I'm trying, Nelyo, I promise. Elrond gets upset if I don't."

[holdshisown]

"Perhaps..." He flushes a bit at the words. "But that's hard to believe when she had so many other fine children."

"I know you will, but that's never stopped me from worrying before. He'd probably be less upset if we both didn't cause him so much worry all the time." It's not like Maglor was the only one in their family that couldn't be trusted to take care of themselves.

[bythewaves]

"But you are the best of us, Nelyo." Maglor says with fond loyalty. "You always were. I'm sure she could see that, even then."

He shrugs a little, agreeing. "We've hurt him too much... so I try, because it makes him happy."

[holdshisown]

"I'll just have to agree to disagree with you on that." He says. "I guess I'll have to ask her what she meant... if I ever see her again."

He nods sadly. "We did. We'll have to do better this time."

[bythewaves]

"All of our brothers would agree with me." Maglor points out fondly.

"We will. And I'll try not to worry you either, Nelyo. I don't want to be a burden."

[holdshisown]

"Are you sure about that?" He says teasingly. "I think I remember Moryo telling me I was a complete pain in the neck once or twice."

"And I'll try not to worry either of you. You could never be a burden to me."

[bythewaves]

"Moryo thinks everyone is a pain in the neck except Mother!" Maglor points out. "I think he'd still think you the best of us, all the same."

Maglor leans against him and ignores the itch he's developing.

"I'm sorry we make things hard for you, Nelyo."

[holdshisown]

"That he does, but I think I annoy him more at times because he thinks I should know better." And he wasn't completely wrong to think that either. "I suppose it is a matter of perspective then."

Maedhros puts an arm around his brothers shoulders and gives him a comforting squeeze.

"I make things hard for myself, Kano"

"Knowing Moryo, quite possibly true."

He leans into the hug.

"Agree to disagree? Because I think we are most of your trouble, Nelyo."

[holdshisown]

"Stupidity was particularly annoying to him, especially if he thought it was willful stupidity."

He chuckles a little at the thought of Moryo's grumpy expression whenever somebody fell short of his expectations.

"Very well. I won't deny that you have given me your fair share of trouble, but I still hold that the greater part is usualy of my own making."

[bythewaves]

"He found most things stupid." Maglor reminds with a laugh. "But tis true that WILFUL stupidity ranked the lowest in his books."

He smiles up at his brother fondly. "We will just have to disagree." He nods. "Let's get something to eat?"

[holdshisown]

"And who's to say he was wrong about that?" For all he knew it was the rest of the world that was to to tolerant of stupidity. "And, well... can we really blame him for that?"

"I suppose we'll have to. And some food would not go amiss I feel."

[bythewaves]

"I think that might get me a long, detailed lecture!"

He nods, tugging him after him. "Alright. We'll both have to look after each other."

[holdshisown]

"It probably would. So it would be best to avoid doing so."

And he follows obediently, if a little amused at the tugging. "Like always then? I can live with that."

[bythewaves]

"At least so long as he can hear us! But since he's not here, I feel I should just enjoy the lack of lecturing."

Maglor hums happily. "I, as well."

[holdshisown]

"You never know, Kano, maybe he can sense you even from here and is keeping a list on all the things he need to lecture you on when next you meet."

"So what are we going to eat? You know better than I what is good around here so I'll have to rely on your judgement."

[bythewaves]

"If Moryo had developed such skills, I fear that even in Beleriand we would have had no peace!"

He hums. "I know a small tea shop where the food is safe? Mostly cakes but I think they had some savoury dishes too."
