"Yeah." Kinn was quiet with his own thoughts for a moment, drying the knife. "But, we know something like that can happen. And people wake up after it." And then, keeping up his stoic demeanor. "You did miss latrine duty. So you're doubling up on that this week."
Riley saluted without any hesitation. Doing double chores to make up for those he missed didn't bother him at all. It was the least that he could do. Taking care of keeping all the bathrooms clean in the rooms? Yep. He'd do it.
"Got it, P'Kinn. I'll make sure they're extra clean."
"Yeah. I don't think I've ever had your food before though..." He was curious now. Because what was Kinn's cooking like? He had a feeling it wouldn't be at all like Vegas' but that didn't mean it would be bad at least.
"That's because I'm not the best at it. I can manage a meal that's edible, but it's nothing like Vegas." He knew his weaknesses! Cooking was one of them. He could probably get better through practice now that he wasn't back home and food wasn't catered 24/7; and it wasn't like his father promoted domesticity on his sons, either. Why should he?
Then again, Vegas took great pride in cooking so it was still unlikely that Kinn was going to make any great strides in the culinary arts.
"P'Vegas definitely really loves it. His food is really good too. But I like edible too. Edible is good."
Riley gave him a smile of encouragement. Then he pointed to the fridge. "And if all else fails we have lots of kimchi that we made together and that always makes any meal better. That's what my mom always says."
Riley just burst into giggles rather than be upset or apologetic.
"Well I'd offer you your favorite food but I don't know what that is. Or if we have it in the abundance of P'Vegas foods!"
Coming closer, he watched him.
"What is your favorite by the way? Like, um...if it was your birthday what's something you'd hope you get to eat?" Wait, he didn't know when his birthday was either. Well he'd get to that in a second.
Riley looked at the food and then at Kinn and then finally stepped back and held his arms open to his brother. To offer to give him another big hug but this time without the surprise of a sudden grab from behind.
"We're going to celebrate okay? I want to make up for that. You need to have something so special for you."
"There's no need. I have everything I need here." But he still proceeded to join in the embrace, taking a moment to breathe in deeply. "My family is well and whole, that is all that is important."
"And your little brother is still saying you're going to get a birthday party so that way you can enjoy that properly." Riley hugged him tight, squeezing as hard as his very slender arms would allow. Like he was going to push all his love into Kinn at that moment.
"And if you keep fighting it then I'm going to demand that be your wedding present to me. To let us celebrate your birthday properly."
He laughed then, even if it was a little wet sounding. "You demand this as your wedding gift! You ask so much, nong." He had to kiss the top of Riley's head, keeping him close. "You want to celebrate my birthday, go ahead. But as I said, not necessary."
"I do. Because I love you so much. So, so much." They'd come so far since their first meeting but that connection had always been there. The two of them drawn to each other. Riley found himself so happy to be a part of it and he didn't try to pull away from Kinn even a little bit.
"I know it's probably impossible but I really hope you all can meet my mom and dad one day. They would love you all as much as I do."
The wish for a future where they were all together and happy without missing other parts of their lives. It wasn't a bad dream, just one that was more than likely out of reach.
"I'd like that too, Riley. I would enjoy meeting the parents who raised their son so well."
He let the embrace continue at least a minute or two longer before he finally started to pull back, offering another smile. "Let's get you fed, hmm? And bring some extra to Will, as well."
The fact that his adopted family wanted to meet his parents made him so happy. One day he hoped that could happen and that he could even introduce them to Will. That he could reveal everything that had been going on with the past nine years to them.
When Kinn pulled back from the hug, he smiled up at him. "Can I help?"
"Sure. I was slicing the shoots up to add to the stirfry," Kinn explained, offering some more direction before he went to heat up the wok that was available.
A meal shared was always good, even with the left overs.
Riley immediately settled in to help, happy to get to do this with him. Sure neither of them were cooks really but it was the family aspect he loved the most. Cooking together and, eventually, getting to eat together as well.

"Wow... haven't even tried my food yet and you're already going to drown it in Kimchi. I can't compete against a mother's recipe like that."
And then he smirked.

"Doesn't matter what I eat as long as my family is well, nong."

"Are you okay? Did something happen on your birthday?" Little did he know...

But that was only here. Back home there had been other things, but the one thing that hit him close to home was Riley being in a coma and not awake.
