Kinn double-checked his list again. He discussed it with Waisu who indulged him. The old man didn't think any harm would come from it. Well, be as that may, he still ensured that the bone setter was close by considering his other close healer was... no longer on Nippon.
He and Porsche sat across from each other at the small table in their quarters, staring at each other. There was a carafe of whisky, a glass, and then a vial of the uki that Kinn had obtained. Kinn poured a measure of the drug out into the glass and left the rest stoppered so that he could give it to Silvio for a sniff test. He himself wafted the glass under his nose, trying to detect the odor. He passed the glass to Porsche to see if he could detect anything, too. Sighing through his nose, he added whisky to the glass and swirled it lazily.
"Ready?" They both had better be ready. Because it was happening. They needed to know how this affected a person and if there was any way to fight the effects.
This was a safe as it was going to get. Kinn was probably right in that the chances this had been laced were slim. Still, precautions had been taken. He watched in silence as Kinn set things up to his liking, only shaking his head in the negative after giving it a sniff himself.
"This is the stuff that they put in food and everything else?" His own memories of being roofied still fresh in his mind. It had lead to a night of amazing sex and broken the barrier that had been holding them back. But still .... given the choice.
Looking from the glass to meet and hold Kinn's gaze, Porsche set his jaw and gave a single nod. His usual smirking grin nowhere to be found. "As I'll ever be," he answered.
"Bottoms up!" He took the shot and then set the glass down. Of course he knew it would take a little bit of time for it to get into his system but he couldn't help counting down some seconds. "Well, look at that. I feel fine! Didn't work!"
He wanted to put the joke out there even though he knew full well that it was only a matter of time. Joking aside, he answered Porsche's question. "Yes. Tay and Wanyin were drugged with it. From what I gathered, Wanyin is familiar with it and chose to monitor Tay until it worked out of his system." He looked a little uncomfortable saying it. "He did have a girlfriend here, until recently. So Tay making moon eyes at him wasn't the best thing."
Though he didn't truly think the attempt at humor was funny, it was appreciated and he couldn't help but laugh a little. "There's no way we would be so lucky," he quipped back as his eyes flicked to the clock, noting the time. How long till this kicked in?
"That must have been fun for Wanyin. He doesn't seem the type to handle that sort of attention with any ease. Who drugged them?" Not that it mattered but he still wanted to know. One of the more unfortunate lessons learned whilst in the depths of Korn's empire was that knowledge was power and everyone had secrets.
"Was that all Tay did? Stare longingly? So this stuff can be resisted?"
"I wish." He sighed heavily, pouring out another measure of whisky only. "They fucked and I guess he got addicted to ancient Chinese cock. Vegas tried to talk sense into him but..." Kinn shook his head. He missed his friend, yes, but he had missed Porsche more.
"Vegas made enough food for an army, so an impromptu dinner party was had. Tay was just shy of climbing into his lap then. But of course, they decided I didn't need to know about it until after the fact." He shook his head, still annoyed by the whole thing. "You don't fuck where you shit. Pretty certain it ticked our hostess off."
He downed the second drink. "From what I could glean from everyone who decided to be tight-lipped about it yet keep their holes loose, it was a bar known to spike the drinks and food just to keep the patrons horny." Politicians and their kids--always dumb and too trusting for their own good outside of the law making chamber doors.
Porsche listened to the tale while trying to keep his biases from coloring his reaction to everything that went down. Tay had always been Kinn's friend more than his, which was to be expected. And while they were in the same social circle, Tay lacked a hardness that was inherent to Kinn. He was soft in a way that normally wouldn't be a problem.
It sounded like that softness had not served him well in this place.
"So he managed to find a way out of this place after stirring up all the shit?" Which wasn't entirely fair, since as far as Porsche knew there was no way to willingly leave. There were few things Porsche had zero tolerance for. Near to the top of that list was someone causing a mess that everyone else had to clean up.
"I don't know. Others have said there's no rhyme or reason when people come and go. Whatever research I've found about these time loops have yielded nothing." Be he couldn't disagree that having Tay turn their footing here on Nippon perilous was annoying. And dangerous.
But as far as he knew, that had been patched up and smoothed over. It still was wise to keep one eye out for lingering trouble, though.
Being January, it was cold around here. But Kinn felt fine. He even needed to loosen his collar a bit, just to give himself a little air. He smiled. "Nice having our guns back, huh? I was thinking, even though we do have them, it wouldn't be a bad idea to still be proficient with the Nambus. You never know, right?"
"If there was any solid information about how they work, I would imagine the secret is closely guarded by who ever is running this whole show. Someone has to know how to manipulate the loops. They were able to let people go home around the new year and manage to get them back here. Someone knows something."
Porsche's eyes flicked to the clock and back to Kinn. What had it been 10, 15 minutes? On the off chance this turned into a marathon sex session, he'd set aside bottles of water and snacks. That way they wouldn't have to leave or bother anyone to come check on them. Vaguely remembering his own experience, Porsche wanted nobody but himself near Kinn till the effects passed.
Did he trust Kinn? Absolutely. Did he trust the effects of a drug that he had no experience with? Absolutely not.
"I agree with that idea. Having what we're used to using is preferable but there's no reason to handicap ourselves by not being familiar with other options. I'm surprised you haven't installed a shooting range in the hotel somewhere." He grinned. "Complete with a bowl of apples just in case you get bored with paper targets."
His arm was finally free! It stank like a water-bloated corpse but free! Once he had gotten home, Kinn was already washing the skin, trying to find the most scented thing in the hotel to do so. That was one thing he couldn't abide by and that was the fact the muscle atrophied--he was going to have a time getting it back into shape is his left hand but he was willing to get it done. Once dried and a shirt back on him, he eyed the few items in his room with his eyes zeroing on two items set next to each other on the one dresser: his magnum and the violin case. Picking up one, he chooses to head out, messaging his family where he would be. Kinn heads over to the coffee shop in Port Market, a little excited to enjoy the fresh air even if he was half frozen. The weight off his arm felt wonderful and part of him was puzzled over the fact that if he was lifting a cast on his arm, why would his muscles be sore and unused? Setting up at a table inside where it was warmer and with a fresh au lait on a saucer, he pulls the violin out to check the body, tune a few strings, and Rosen the bow. Moments later, he was playing This piece, humming the bits that weren't directly from the violin. It was good to be able to do this but his arm tired so easily! He could only hold it up for a few minutes at a time; just long enough for a song before he needed to set it down and drink some coffee and people-watch.
Part of Kinn's duties here was to keep his relationship with Vegas in good standing. With his arm freed from the cast, he decided that on one particularly brisk day that he and Vegas needed to go bond and have a meal together, just the two of them with no need to keep up any pretenses.
He decided on Lotus and Peony. The soup had been excellent and fitted with a spice that reminded him of home.
Layered up in winter clothes, he breathed into the fur collar of his coat, glancing over to Vegas.
"You're going to love this soup. Actually, anything here is delicious. And it'll keep us warm on the trip home, too."
Was Kinn actually taking him out to eat? Why, is the question burning in his mind. Sure, they're getting on well enough, but that's no reason to go out of their way to spend time together. Right? Well, free food is free food and it's nice to not be the one cooking every now and then.
"You come here often?" He seemed to know the menu pretty well, so it was a valid question. Vegas shoved his hands into his coat pockets and followed along as they approached. Well, the scent of food wafting on the air smelled good and Vegas could, indeed, get the sense of spice from that alone.
"I've been here a few times," Kinn admitted. "Wanyin's sister runs it, actually. She said one time that our food wasn't spicy enough for her so I wanted to see what she meant. Turns out this is just as good as Thai-Nippon spices basically suck."
Once within the establishment, they were seated and offered menus that were one page apiece. Kinn looked his over and then waited for Vegas to pick something as he requested tea.
Vegas can't hide the way he bristles at that. Their food... That meant his food, things he poured his heart into to provide for his nearest and dearest. The disrespect! Cooking, for Vegas, is an act of love.
Well, he's certainly less happy once they get inside with this new knowledge. He's already prepared to be unimpressed with whatever dish he ends up with. "Tea's fine. Oolong."
Kinn watched Vegas as they were seated, his features scrutinizing. "Vegas. Unless you're wooing Madame Jin--Jiang? I don't know how they deal with marriage names and family names. But I wouldn't put any stock in it. I like your food."
Kinn didn't expect anyone else to understand what food meant to Vegas. And felt he should remind his cousin that, too. Kinn remained polite, indicating that they would both take Oolong.
"So unless you're trying to get me into bed, don't worry too much about it."
"Don't be disgusting, I'll lose my appetite," he stated, wrinkling up his nose. He huffed quietly. Kinn should know better. Food wasn't about wooing at all... Or else someone needs to warn the whole of their family unit.
"Besides, you should know by now I've never once went after a woman in my life." At least he can try to make light of this insult.
Kinn made a 'that's fair' expression. "Sounds about right for this generation of the family." Though, he had no clue what gender Macau would go after once the hormones really kicked in. It didn't matter, anyway.
When the server returned with tea, Kinn put his order in for a meal. It was the spiciest item they had on the menu and he waited to see if Vegas would follow or go 'tame' out of spite. But while the server was present, Kinn saw no need to discuss anything. Old habit, but it served him well enough: You don't talk about business, family or otherwise when the staff were around. At least not his own staff.
The one temple that highlighted Buddha, Kinn traveled over to the Western Kingdom, following the address Vegas had given him. After Riley finally woke up, he felt he needed to come here-even though this seemed more like Porsche's deal, not his.
It was important to establish a presence here, anyway. Porsche wanted a real wedding. This was just the first step to give Porsche what he wanted.
His birthday party held more questions than answers, more specifically, about his brother. Kim had been acting oddly and at first Kinn thought it was just because of the celebration. Perhaps Kim had too much to drink. But as time passed, especially with the Lawan-Parks getting adjusted to married life and with Wanyin spending more time here at the hotel, Kinn wondered if something else wasn't going on.
Kim had opened up and it seemed like changes were happening, but then he shut down suddenly. At least as far as Kinn was concerned. Then hearing about the hangover episode, Kinn worried all the more. It was time to have a heart-to-heart and make certain there wasn't something weird going on that he needed to address before it backfired.
Holding a bundle that contained a fluffy sweater and scarf and on top some snacks, he knocked on the wood panel of the door and waited.
Kim had been keeping it pretty low key since the whole drunken episode, Will and Riley needed their time to do things with the two of them. Kim knew that and was letting them to that. Most of the time he was in his room, reading or working on songs. It was quiet, but sometimes Kim welcomed just quiet.
He was at the small table writing down ideas for songs in a note book, as of now he was doing small jobs singing for the cash to eventually get his own guitars. The knock on the door got his attention, he glanced up before closing the note book and making his way over to the door. He opened the door and for a second was confused as to why Kinn was there being as busy as he was, but stepped aside.
" What brings you up here?" flat tone very much like he was normally back home. Room was spotless though Kim cleaned the hell out of the place after the mess made during the bender days.
"My brother?" Kinn walked in and if he had a cursory glance around the room, he didn't look like he was. Instead, he takes the treats and bundles to set them on the table. "I haven't seen you in a few days and wanted to make certain you were doing okay."
And that was the elephant here. Was Kim doing okay? Kinn looks up, watching his brother. "Besides, I brought you some stuff."
" Thank you." he said sitting on one of the chairs at the table. Kinn had been concerned enough to come up here. He appreciated the thought and the items that he had brought up with him. He'd gone through a lot of trouble.
"Why would I not be okay?" Let's not talk about that 3ish day bender earlier in the month okay? That was a one, or two, or whatever off. That was a big issue for everyone who came from that house, not talking about things letting brains warp ideas until it was just too much.
Kinn didn't answer that question as he opened up one parcel of snacks and offer a very spicy rice crisp.
"Will and Riley got married. Wanyin's been over more and more, spent the night one time, too." He's not stupid and he doesn't think Kim was stupid. But he also needed to make certain that his family operated in relative harmony here. They were all they had of each other. "I know how Riley operates in terms of relationships here-Will seems to be on the same page." He takes another crisp and looks at it. "Are you on the same page with them?"
After new years and how readily Kim was to take the Fae home and how they didn't see that trio surface for a long while, it didn't take a genius to put two and two together. Or one and two together, in this case.
Kim took a deep breath letting it out slowly, he wasn't one to talk much about his romantic life. He was on the same page, he knew that Riley and Will were in an open type of relationship. He knew that there would be others for them. Just because he was just with the two of them and had no plans to open the door for anyone else didn't mean they weren't connecting.
Taking one of the spicy snacks from the box, for a moment he held it in his hand, looking to his brother. " We've spoken about things, and we are all in agreement."
He looked to his brother, " Kinn, I think that you've misunderstood something a long the way here." he began. " If you're concerned about my distance, you really shouldn't be. I was this way at home, the reason for it remains the same." he took a bite of the snack.
" Because I am the same and you are the same and one day, that gun you use to protect those you care for, and all you've worked for will inevitably try to take my life. Or I will take yours because I can't change. Deep down neither can you."
"I still don't understand why you think I'd kill you." Stating how the future could happen wasn't saying anything. But they were experts in not speaking straightforward and adept on dancing around things.
He looked up at Kim, his expression serious with a little bit of concern. "Why would I kill you?"
