I. Starry Night - Pond

Times like this were peaceful for him. When he could stand at the edge of a pond like this and see the stars in the sky as well as the reflection of the water. It reminded him so much of quieter times before everything had changed in his life. When he was just the Night Immortal with his Dream Beast at his side. Before all the pain and suffering...so much caused by his own hand.

Embracing his element, he stepped forth onto the water, walking across the surface with only soft ripples following. Soon the dragon was several feet away from the shore and just looking up at the sky above him. He smiled softly as he did, a breeze softly stirring his hair.

Hearing someone behind him, he looked over his shoulder to see who had joined him.


II. Starry Night - Daytime Stalls

Curious about the stalls that appeared for the meteor shower, Runyu visited them during the day. The food looked good but he wasn't hungry and ignored it for the most part. The trinkets though? These had his attention. Little toys and hair pins and other accessories. He couldn't help but to smile as he looked them over, sometimes picking them up to inspect them before setting them aside.

It was like he was looking for just the right thing. Which was honestly true. He was looking for little gifts for his loved ones. Something special to give to them. They never asked for that but it still felt like something he wanted to do all the same.

Lifting up a pin, he hummed softly then looked at the person next to him. "What do you think?"


III. Starry Night - Meteor Shower

Once all the lights were out, he moved to where he could have a good view of the sky. The shower was stunning, much like the ones he would provide the Mortal Realm in the past. It brought a smile to his lips to watch it happen. "...beautiful."

Near him he heard whispers of which on the rainbow tails. For a second he considered it then shook is head as he looked to the sky again. There was nothing he wanted to wish for. Nothing that he felt he could deserve to wish for. It was better that all that remained in his own world. Unless he wanted to wish for Xufeng's happiness which he already knew his brother would have in the end with Jinmi and those beautiful children.

So, he was just content to watch instead. "I wonder who controls the night sky here..."

Looking over at the one she held, he noted the difference. Ah, he could see what she meant. Humming softly in thought, he considered it a moment or so before responding, just to be sure that he had his thoughts in order first.

"I think something with more simplicity. Though I know of someone who would enjoy the one you hold as well. Perhaps I'll end up with both in the end," he stated with a soft laugh.

[atheva]

Atheva nods with a gentle smile. "That would certainly solve your dilemma," she retorts with a chuckle. Returning the pin to the table, she gestures to the one in Runyu's hand. "My husband would prefer something like that. He is a man of simplicity."

[dragonrising]

"Your husband is one with refined taste then. As one who has tasted the life of something grander, I've found that the simplicity is preferrable." It was why he didn't hide his title here but neither did he announce it constantly. It meant he could just live as himself and he appreciated that.

"One of my loves enjoys the simplicity as well. It's something I admire in him."

[atheva]

It warms her to imagine Cullen in such a market as this. He has a good eye for quality, perhaps the perk of living in cities with some of the finest artisans. "Then I would choose something like you have in your hand. Elegant, but simple without being plain. See the subtle details when the light hits it just so?"

[dragonrising]

Lifting it to the light, he let the sun reveal the little details of it. It was proving to be more interesting to look at the more he held it. Especially with her pointing out this aspect of it. "You're right. There's almost a small shift in the color too that you have to pay attention to see. Beautiful."

[atheva]

"Fitting for a loved one." She admired the subtle beauty of it, watching the colors shift in the light. Yes, it seemed to her to be fitting for someone of more simple tastes. It isn't plain, yet it isn't flashy either. "I think it would make a fine a gift."

[dragonrising]

"Thank you."

Lowering it, he made to purchase both, looking to her while they were being wrapped up. She had a unique appearance, once he really never saw. Still, he offered her a smile all the same. "My name is Runyu. I'm grateful for your aid."

[atheva]

"I am Atheva." A string of titles would normally follow, but since such things are meaningless here, she doesn't bother. Curiosity fills her pale golden eyes as she looks at him. "May I ask... Have you always been a dragon?" She knows well enough that this place changes people and she's very curious.

[dragonrising]

"These features are new but I was born a dragon, yes. Where I come from I can control this so these features do not display themselves so freely. The bonds I've formed here have made these a lasting feature though." A long answer but a necessary one. After all, he'd always been a dragon but he'd been able to control it more before. Before the magics of this place.

[atheva]

Her eyes widen slightly and, after a beat, a smile tugs at her lips. "Where I come from, dragons cannot look like anything else."

[dragonrising]

"They can't?" Runyu looked surprised by that fact. After all, he'd never heard of such a thing before. "They do not have another form? They are only beasts at all times?"

[atheva]

She nods in affirmation. "They are, unfortunately, hunted as humans find them threatening."

[dragonrising]

Humans. Mortals then. That made sense. It was why it was so important to keep such things away from them since it could inspire fear. Much like what she was describing. So he gave a nod with a serious look.

"It is a shame that the two worlds couldn't find an understanding with each other. Dragon and mortal..."

[atheva]

"It is a shame. Dragons are already so rare in my world. My clan knew to avoid areas that dragons claim for themselves."

She wondered if they could shift into appearances that humans and elves found less threatening if they would be safer.

[dragonrising]

"Your clan respected them and for that I must thank you. They may not be my direct kin but I still feel appreciation all the same."

Though his status would say he shouldn't do this, he didn't care. He faced her completely and cupped his hands before him so he could offer her a bow of gratitude.

[atheva]

Those pale eyes blinked once then again before she reached out to right him. Her hands are gently on his arms, giving just the slighted of nudges to encourage him to stand upright. In a way, she supposed she could understand the gratitude.

"It was merely the wisdom of our elders," she advised. "We tried to get along without harming others."

[dragonrising]

Rising, he shook his head. "We can have the wisdom of our elders but it our choice what we do with it. I feel I would like your people a great deal."

They were the ones he wanted to protect the most now since those were the types of people he'd hurt so badly in the past.

[atheva]

"I am biased," she assured with a soft laugh. "I feel that my clan is special, even among the other Dalish elves."

[dragonrising]

That brought laughter bubbling out of the dragon. He liked that spirit quite a bit. "Please, tell me more about your clan. I would like to hear of it."

He swept his hand to the side. "There is a tea place near here. We could sit and talk more there if you like."

[atheva]

"If you have nowhere pressing to be, I wouldn't mind at all."

She smiles warmly, waiting for him to lead to the tea house. She doesn't have many friends here, yet, so she's eager to have a chance to simply chat with someone about her old life.

[dragonrising]

"No, I'm free."

Leading the way to the shop, he got them a table and made sure they had tea to enjoy. Though his station wouldn't have allowed for it in his world, he ignored that in favor of pouring the tea for the both of them. After all, his title mattered little here and he enjoyed that.

"Please. Tell me more about your clan."

[atheva]

Atheva finds the lack of titles a relief. They are not obligated to carry the weight of whatever titles they had in their home worlds in Nippon. For her, she enjoyed going back to having a simpler life once more. Of course, she missed her friends and relations, but she has the utmost confidence in their ability to carry on without her.

"Clan Lavellan, like most Dalish clans, is nomadic. Our elders chose disputed territories for us to wander to lessen the chance of attack by humans, lest one city-state think another is trying to lay claim to their land. Though we tried to stay out of human affairs, we also kept abrest of them. I was sent to observe a conclave between warring human factions. My Keeper even earned a seat on a human city's ruling council!"

[dragonrising]

He already had so many questions but he waited for her to get to a stopping point first. Already her people sounded so fascinating. Nomads who kept to themselves. That couldn't have been easy.

"What is a Keeper, if I might ask?"

[atheva]

"Ah, yes," she nodded. It was a question that was expected. Though he didn't usually divulge a great deal of information to outsiders, there was no one here who could harm them.

"Our clan's Keeper is dedicated to the preservation of ancient elven lore. This makes them a mentor and a leader of the clan in both a spiritual and literal sense. Does that answer your question?"

[dragonrising]

"Yes. Thank you. I've heard of things like this before so I can understand the importance of your Keeper. Though I imagine it's unusual for a Keeper to be on a human council. Is that correct?"

He imagined so given how the Dalish seemed to be the sort to avoid human affairs for some reason. He wasn't sure why yet but he supposed if he had some clarification it would help in his understanding.
